More stars without any make up on

Why do the stars look so much more unhealthy when they have no make up on? Just look at Alicia Silverstone.
She looks pale and washed out and what the heck are those marks on her right cheek?
Sharon Osbourne doesn’t look too bad. I mean she could look better but she doesn’t look bad. [...]
