Malibu Fires Force Evacuations and Cause Television Production Slow Downs

cali_fire.jpg It’s unlikely that you haven’t heard about the southern California wildfires that are putting Malibu in danger and forcing the evacuation of thousands of homes.

The latest news on the fires is that stars are not only being forced to evacuate their homes, but filming is being disrupted as well! If these fires continue to rage some of beloved television shows may end up having serious delays in production.

Richard Gere and John Travolta who flew into the Los Angeles area on Monday for the 11th annual Hollywood Awards got a fantastic aerial view of the fires. Gere was quoted by Access Hollywood as saying “It’s as far as you could see in both directions,” Travolta then added “The smoke was actually in the plane as we flew through. It was a large area, surprisingly large. I mean I never like to see that.”

Kelsey Grammer who was evacuated from his Malibu home told E! Online “All I see is smoke, but we’re okay.” he said of his family and pet dog.

It’s also been reported that land owned by Sean Penn has been fire blackened and two of his trailers parked on that land have been charred.

Other stars that have had to be evacuated include Mel Gibson, and Victoria Principal. Victoria was kind enough to have donated $50,000 to the Malibu evacuation center so that food and blankets could be provided to evacuees. She also donated another $10,000 to an animal shelter that rescues stray pets.

Television productions that have been affected by the fire include Big Shots which canceled a cycling sequence that was scheduled to shoot on Tuesday in Malibu; A scene on 24 with Kiefer Sutherland had to be canceled due to the smoke that was drifting in from nearby fires; and one of my favorite quirky shows, The Riches, had to rewrite a scene that was to include a real sheriffs deputy – naturally the deputies were dispatched from the set to help the fire crews and evacuation efforts.

Nobu, a famous Malibu restaurant closed it’s doors on Sunday, but it’s said that they will open again to serve meals to local firefighters.

Secure mail drop directory

If you have a business, travel a lot or have a need for privacy and wish to have packages delivered to one central location rather than your home or business then you might be interested in using a mail drop service. Maildropguide.com is the largest internet directory of mailboxes, maildrops and remailing services.

One reason that I can think of for a private individual to want a mail drop address would be if they were going away on an extended vacation – perhaps that three month trip to Europe that they’ve always wanted to do. You don’t want to inconvenience someone by having them drop by your house daily just to collect the mail, and you certainly don’t want the mail piling up at the door. Nothing tells a thief that a home is unoccupied better than a pile of mail and or newspapers at the door.

Why not rent out a mail drop box while you travel? Your mail will have a secure address to go to and you won’t have tell tale mail sitting at your door inviting thieves to rob the place.

Visit the directory to easily find a mail drop company near your home. The guide has listings for hundreds if not thousands of cities from all over the world.

Stephen Colbert opens Museum

Stephen Colbert is giving back to The Nation. He’s helping to revitalize one of America’s depressed communities by offering them the opportunity to house the “Stephen Colbert Museum and Gift Shop.”

This multi-part celebration will air on Comedy Central’s Emmy-nominated “The Colbert Report” during the week of November 27 at 11:30 p.m.

Stephen has chosen rural Tuscumbia (pop: 9,000) in Alabama’s Colbert County as the location for the “Stephen Colbert Museum and Gift Shop.” He is convinced that it will provide a “can’t-miss” economic jolt for the community.

The “Stephen Colbert Museum and Gift Shop” is the world’s first museum entirely devoted to a celebration of Stephen Colbert. After all, since the county named itself after him (at least that’s what Stephen thinks), it’s the least he can do in return.

Over the course of the week, “The Colbert Report” will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes segments detailing the challenges involved in opening this tribute to himself, as well as a look at his primary competition for the hearts and souls (and cash) of Colbert County which is Ivy Green, the birthplace of Tuscumbia native Helen Keller.
