When I purchase my first Maltese cross for the garden back in 2002 I really didn’t know if I was going to like the plant or not. I was an orangey red though and I thought that would go nice to with the other plants I had planned to grow in the garden.

I was surprised to find that I enjoyed the Maltese cross very much. It’s tiny delicate little flowers clustered together on at the top of long 4 foot or so high stalks. I have a few of these plants now and they are so easy! They are perennials and they pretty much take care of themselves. The Maltese cross goes through it’s first bloom in early to mid July, and then often has another set of blooms in late August to Early September. The flowers last at least two weeks each time they bloom.

I’ve seen them, but didn’t know the name. They surely are decorative. The more humble plant though ;-)

Very pretty! I love a returning perennial with lots of color! Especially the ones that take care of themselves!

This is a favorite of mine for my most “colorful” garden bed. The hummingbirds love it, too.

    Nice colours!
    Look at the strong stalk!
