Save the Snowman

Wordless Wednesday

Suicidal Snowman

hangedsnowman

This poor snowman. He’s so confused. He thought he’d never come to life this year since it’s been unseasonably warm and one of the key factors needed to bring him to life was absent. That’s right- there was no snow.

This past Monday the snowman was born, but there still isn’t all that much snow. Even worse there are no snow women. None at all!

Poor guy. He spent all of December and half of January just waiting to come to life and start a small snowman family, but without a Mrs. Snowman his dreams have been crushed.

Does anyone know of a mailorder snow woman agency? He needs love. Lets save him before he melts and hangs himself as he slids off th bench.

Today is the first COLD day we’ve had in a very long time. It’s been so warm that the forsythia has started blooming and the spring bulbs are breaking ground. Great picture.

Wow. Am I the only person who things that is not funny? Sorry . . . don’t wish to offend, but jeez.

Suicide is not a funny subject and should not be joked about under any circumstances. What if someone comes to your blog who lost a loved one that way? What if someone is depressed and thinking about killing him/herself and happens upon this blog?

I have a great sense of humor, but I am also a civil rights attorney and when I first opened up your page, that image brought other times, incidents, and the oppression of people of color to mind. That’s because the photo was all I saw at first . . .then I started reading.

As bloggers, we have a responsibility to show some restraint and think about the power of words and photos.

Just my opinion. You have the right to post what you want. The right to free speech still exists . . . George & Co. haven’t wiped it out yet.

    Have a great day.

Thanks to everyone who thought this photo was funny.

JHS – I’m so sorry if you thought this photo was offensive. The very last thing I would ever want to do is offend anyone. If you’d read what I’ve been saying about living here where we normally have snow and very cold weather at this time of year- and how we haven’t up until this week perhaps you’d understand my comments under the photo better and perhaps understand why a photo like this might strike me as funny.

I don’t believe I have an offensive bone in my body. I go out of my way to try not to offend anyone, and I’ve actually been quite upset since reading your comments at the thought that I might have offended anyone and I’m deeply sorry if I did.

I’m an ER nurse. Working in the ER we have people dying around us every single day that we work there. We have to find some humor in things- even morbid things or else we won’t survive working in that department, let alone as a nurse. Perhaps that’s why I didn’t see some of the things that you pointed out about this photo.

In the past week I’ve had someone blast me about writing a paid ad, and someone else was convinced that I was wrong that Toronto normally isn’t this warm in the dead of winter, and now this. I’m seriously starting to consider not blogging anymore.

Tragedy is the heart of comedy. In the old Dick Van Dyke show, each episode a lesson on how to write great comedy, the opening scene has Dick tripping over his briefcase. It’s funny. He’s tripping. The same was true of the old Chevy Chase routines where he would fall down the stairs on SNL.

It’s possible to be offended by Dick Van Dyke. People can be seriously hurt tripping over things. I’m sure that some people may even have lost loved ones from tripping accidents. On the other hand, it’s also possible to lighten up, not take yourself so seriously and not expect all of us to wallow in your particular pain. That particular bit of narcissm isn’t funny at all.

Hahaha, that’s priceless! Be sure to go see what KT Cat had to say about it 🙂

Please, Tricia – don’t ever stop blogging – controversy is what blogging is all about – we all have a right to our opinions – and you just gotta respect a lawyer who says exactly what he feels – he’s right, none of us should try to hurt others… but then he turns around and badmouths the President – jeez JHS – at least have a bit of respect for the man and the majority who elected him…

OH MY GOSH!! I LOVE IT!! I’m sorry–I do understand the tragedy and grief that comes from suicide–but for some reason–it didn’t translate for me with this photo! Had I been drinking something—it would have been shot out my nose!! Tooooooo Funny!!
