Since I live in Sweden I have to make do with bluetits. They're big compared to a hummingbird (about the size of an poultry egg) and the biggest bird in the world if you ask themselves. My favourite among the small birds are the great tit, since it's easy to teach it to feed from the palm of one's hand. Of course; you may end up feeding an entire family in a few weeks.... In Mississippi, the hummingbirds are thick all summer, arriving in May and leaving in October. I have seen six of them fighting over a single feeder. Until we lived there I didn't know that they will actually land and sit on the branches of a tree. It is amazing to hear the humming of their wings in the evening, even before you see the little red heads or red neck bands. I have no idea as to how far north their migration usually takes them.
