Oh those Bleeding Hearts
I believe I took this photo in early June last year. My bleeding hearts, Dicentra spectabilis, aren’t even up yet, and they likely won’t come up until the end of April or beginning of May, but once they begin to grow they will grow fast and should be blooming by the end of May or early June.
I’ve always heard that Bleeding Hearts don’t get very tall but mine often grow close to three feet tall and spread out almost three feet in diameter. I have to stake mine so that they don’t flop - perhaps that’s why mine look taller than most that I see?
So far the only Spring flowers that have bloomed are my crocus’ but I expect that others will follow very soon, perhaps by next weekend if I’m lucky.

Green Thumb Sunday is here once again. And once again it is wet and dreary in my Canadian Garden. I do have lots poking through the ground though … making me an optimist that things are improving.

We call them Lieutnants hearts if I translate the Swedish name for them and I’ve also seen them rather tall
They are very popular over here in Sweden, since a very long time back in time and no wonder - they are very pretty!

We had a bleeding heart plant back in Canada that got huge. I remember that plant because an escaped Guinea Pig once tried to take refuge in it and I was very worried that it was toxic. If memory serves me correctly they are. The Guinea Pig was with us well beyond his normal life expectancy.

I’m quite taken with the Bleeding Hearts — don’t know that I’ve ever seen any in person, but I keep seeing them on others’ blogs and really like them. Thanks for sharing the photo!

So lovely! My mother used to grow those down south. I don’t know if they’d grow here at all. I don’t know if I could grow anything at if I ever lived in a place that got real winters, lol!
My BlueHost resurrected itself this morning and my GTS is finally up. No photos, but it’s there!

Bleeding hearts are one of my favorite spring flowers. So beautiful. My grandmother had some in her garden and they always remind me of her.

Lovely! I have fern leaf bleeding hearts just starting to pop up on my shade garden. This is the first year I’ve grown them, so I am looking forward to seeing how they do for me.

You must have just the right growing conditions for them. Beautiful. Given that we got several cms of snow today, your post gives me hope.
