Radar detectors are illegal here
A while back one of our friends got pulled over for some kind of driving infraction and the police caught him with a radar detector in the car.
I know that radar detectors are legal in some US States but I don’t believe that they are legal anywhere in Canada.
Well it turns out that he got a big fine. I think it was a couple thousand dollars but don’t quote me on that.
Isn’t that terrible? He was using the radar detector so he could get home a little faster and in the end it turns out that it set him back a few thousand!
It doesn’t seem worth it, does it?

According to Wikipedia, radar detectors are legal in BC, Sask, and Alberta and illegal in the rest of Canada. I remember travelling in the US on a family vacation when I was a child. We got pulled over and the trooper peered suspiciously at our garage door opener. He asked us if it was a radar detector. I suppose radar detectors (or laser detectors) won’t help in the case of those hated traffic cameras though.

I’m in Ontario … definitely illegal here.
Yes I think I’ve heard stories about people being questioned about garage door openers and other things that I suppose look like radar detectors before.

I live in the US (currently Maryland), when I was living in Colorado my father had a radar detector. I don’t remember him ever getting in trouble because of it, but I know he stopped using it because apparently it’s now illegal.
Also, they can be rather annoying.

Ouch. That fine is out of control. Here in Nevada they are perfectly legal, but I’m not sure they work all that well. Plus our speed limit is 75 on the highway, so that is pretty fast to begin with.

I’ve heard that one town in the South(US) is going to put on a fuel surcharge on any traffic ticket. ouch!
