Bi-color Monkshood buds

Monkshood Aconitum

Our bi-color monkshood has started to bloom. It’s a lovely flower. A little unusual looking but lovely just the same. I should have tried to get a photo of the foliage as well as it’s quite nice.

I grow two types of Monkshood. The second type doesn’t bloom until the end of August thought – it’s the Azure monkshood and it’s absolutely lovely. Don’t worry there’ll be photos when it blooms.

I grow this monkshood in the far corner of my garden near some roses and our very very slow growing holly tree. It spruces up the area when it’s in bloom.

Do you grow any unusual or less common types of plants?

I have never heard of this flower. It reminds me a little of the sweetpea.

I grew pomigranits. A wonderful tree that at Christmas when I harvested jelly made would be my gifts to my neighbors.

I love my monkshood. It brightens the darkest part of my yard. Took a good photo of it a few days ago…

These are new plants to me. Very nice. It seems all the plants (mostly cacti) are unusual–at least to most folks. However, most are very common to cacti collectors.

I’ve seen monkshood before, but I’ve yet to grow it. I love the blossoms, especially the color!

Lovely flowers! As for unusal plants, most of the stuff I grow is unusual to grow indoors in Sweden, ie. carrots, sallads and other vegetables. Among my edible plants the tiger nut is the most uncommon plant – again in a Swedish context. The tiger nut doesn’t survive the winter here, and chufa is unheard of.

    Beautiful shot :-)
