My Hydrangea can’t decide if it’s pink or blue
Last year I bought a Hydrangea plant for my garden.
I think I bought it in August or September so it didn’t do anything last year except settle itself into it’s new home. I believe it’s an Endless Summer Hydrangea and it was definitely labeled as a *pink* hydrangea.
It started to bloom about two weeks ago, and much to my surprise it’s flower clusters are not pink, nor are they blue … they are bi-colored!
My Hydrangea is severely confused!
I guess I’d better decide if I really want it to be pink or blue and then get out there and amend the soil appropriately. I believe you need to add lime to the soil if you want pink Hydrangeas and Aluminum to the soil if you want blue Hydrangeas. I’ll do some research.
If you have hydrangeas, did yours ever do this? Isn’t it strange?

Mine did that sometimes in Ohio. Here in Utah, the soil is so alkaline that my hydrangea is usually a deep, hot pink. Kylee at Our Little Acre had a post about her hydrangeas a few weeks ago. My GTS post is up, please come visit!

How beautiful! I really, really adore Hydrangeas although I don’t believe they do very well in the heat of Arizona! I did buy one last spring though, and it was labeled a “color changing” hydrangea and was supposed to be pink or blue depending on the soil, and then green and cherry red until frost! The pictures on the label are beautiful and it was blooming and I just couldn’t resist! It died back quite a bit after I first planted it but it is growing back now and I am hoping that I can actually get some blooms from it!

I like the mix too – my spirea does the same thing – white pink and red all on the same head – I love it
My post was up early this morning but I didn’t get chance to let you know until know. Come have a look – I’m sooooo chuffed with myself

I don’t have hydrangea but I’m between things here in North Idaho.
I’m up with my adventure on huckleberry picking. Sorry it on the late side.

I think the hydrangea looks beautiful with the 2 tones. I bought one in the early spring and it said it was blue but it started blooming pink flowers. That’s really wild how the soil has an effect on the color. Thanks for the tip.

I always had the mixed colors as I didn’t do the aluminium thing as it might have upset other plants in that part of the garden, but I actually like them that way so it was no problem.
