Short Sedum?

For some reason my Sedum plants are really short this year. Usually by September or October they are well over a foot high and blooming beautifully, but this year they are only about 6 to 8 inches tall! Very strange, must be the rainy summer we had.

Did any of your plants do worse than expected this year or grow shorter than they normally do? I had mixed results - my spring flowers were taller than normal and for the most part my roses did well, but most of them lost their leaves by mid- august probably due to the rain.

Beautiful color of Sedum. Hmm there must be a reason but I have no idea.

We don’t really have that much flowers in the garden, so I cannot tell. Our Green Thumb Sunday entry is now posted, too!

Sounds strange, but me too guess it’s the rain. Maybe they don’t like wet feet…? *giggles*

    Great shot!

My GTS post is about wine grapes today. Yes, in this Nordic climate! And with some connection to Canada too :-)

I am always more surprised when my plants do well than when they don’t. I love the color of these- sort of a dusty rose.

Sedum is one of those wonderful drought tolerant plants that do well even in poor soil, as long as it is well drained. If you had more rain than usual this year, then that is most likely your culprit.

Did you add compost/mulch last Fall or this Spring before they started growing? I added a good layer of compost and mulch to part of one bed last Fall… and that (usually quite healthy) sedum grew very sparsely this year and did not get tall. The part that grew did bloom, though… Gardening is often mysterious. ;-)
