The ultimate ROCKMAN by Tom Scholz

May 11, 2007 by Chris

The ROCKMAN by Tom Scholz is the result of the business venture that helped many budding rock stars obtain that BIG FAT Boston sound that everyone was after in the 1980’s.

Unfortunately or fortunately for myself during those years I did not get my hands on any of these ultimate tools of the trade. I was a young player who tried to create the sound that I wanted by going as direct as I could.

I know that is contrary to most of my posts but I wanted to, in the back of my mind, be as pure and honest with my sound as I could. I was trying to slay many dragons on many fields at once. My guitar mentor at the time, always was suspicious about all those tricks that some players used to fool the listeners. This was someone who I had trusted completely and I never thought twice about questioning his judgment. I hope to have him back in my guitar life if he will let me.

Here is an example of the power of the Rockman Sustainor. I’d love to have this one for sure, what do you think?

So, go through this site and tell me if you have had any dealings with any of these products. Please give us the pro’s and con’s of all aspects of them and don’t leave anything out, even if you think that they are self explanatory.

Keep on Jammin’

    Basement memories…1986…HIWATT…’Peace of Mind’

I was the less talented friend who got to play the backing riff ad nausem while my friend perfected the lead.

You know Martin, you may be overly modest about your abundance of talent on your guitar here! Lets hear a copy of your blast from the past and let us be the judge.

    Keep on Jammin’

I will check out your site more. I have to agree with you on the point of how important a mentor is. Without a mentor it will be difficult to achieve all of your goals and you don’t realize what you have until it is gone.

It sure as heck can’t hurt now can it. If I did not have other influences in my musical life I don’t think that I would be were I am today.

I consider my brother and Chris P., as my biggest influences!

My brother is whom I wanted to impress the most to fit in. He helped me look at Zeppelin and blues. I am forever greatfull for this.

Chris P., helped me by introducing me to jazz, the Beatles, finger picking and classical. I am forever in his debt. For some stupid reason, I stopped taking lessons from him when I was young. It’s was more then likely myself who said or did something stupid that broke our bond.

I was going through some wild events in those years, regular high school guy stuff, and I guess it got the best of me. This, losing him as a mentor, was the most stupidest thing that happened to me till this day!

There, I got it out in the open and yes I do feel a lot better now! Thanx for pushing me there Cade!

    Keep on Jammin’

Well thanx Liza! I hope that I have not misled you, but this is just someone who I happened to put on my site. I just have to be honest.

I know, I will get around to putting myself on youtube and when I do, everyone here will be the first to know!

What style do you like playing? I have tons of tabs and regular chording, if your not into tabs, that I’d love to send ya!

Please write back in the comment section of my page and hopefully together, we can get some other closet guitarist out and put you all on stage.

    Keep on Jammin’

I am in the process of putting together a Rockman rack. When I got my sustainor refurbished and ready along with my first EQ I ran them through the clean channel of my Genz and the sound was incredible. Not quite dialed into Boston, but getting there. Next I had a Dimarzio Super Distortion Pickup put in my SG. I bought Part # DP101 that comes with a switch to center tap the coils, ala Jimmy Page. I played that through my Rockman Soloist headphone amp and man was I there. I can hardly wait to get my rack wired and running!

So … how did everything go, we’re all waiting Ken!!!
