Bass guitar wonderland

Posted in Guitar Equipment, Shopping, Technology on Jul 20, 2007

I love playing bass once in a while even though I’m ok at it. I wish that I had the technique to do some “bass slapping” but my longer finger nails prevent me from doing so. I can pull it off in playing songs on my guitar like Neon (John Mayer) or Peggie’s Kitchen walls (Bruce Cockburn) but the doing them on bass is another matter left to the masters of the 4 string.

My wife came across this site called weirdomatic and bookmarked it without telling my, but I do have selective hearing (like most men) and I had to check it out when I stumbled upon it early one morning while she was asleep.

This site has the best and original looking basses that I have seen anywhere. Even if your not a bassist check out this link anyway. These artisans are unreal in their abilities to create functioning works of art. I would never have considered some of these styles to actually work.

The bass’ do not look to be ergonomic, but they would be a blast for anyones collections. Even just to look at them and admire the artistic merits is worth looking at.

Keep on Jammin’

    My favourite is the gun-bass.

I’m planning on building the same gun-bass using the image i’ve download. Does it have a design patent or something ?

Great link… How do they come up with those designs I wonder?

I love the fish bass but the overall abstract nature of these are really impressive. They would make quite a nice collection.

It’s something I always wanted to do was learn to play bass guitar… I dabbled with piano, so I think it’s the nexy step up!

Those where some weird guitars indeed. Wouldn’t want to be caught dead with the one that looked like a poodle though…

Jane are you aware that John Paul Jones of Led Zepplin was in a similar situation that you are in now?

His problem was that he originally was a keyboardist but found it difficult to lug all his gear around so he took up bass.

So here is your chance to follow your dream like Mr. Jones did. Get back to us on the outcome will ya?

    Really, keep on jammin’

Those are very stunning instruments. They’ll all end up in museum I guess.

Probably not Kristen. Some of these beauties would be interesting to play, but more then likely they would be too uncomfortable to use. Maybe the R & R Hall of Fame has some neat stuff in their collection. Have you been there, I know I’d love to go sometime!

Incredible! How incredible are the minds that create those pieces…
I’d love to own one of those.

Ya Patrick, it looks incredible to say the least! Now I wonder how the positioning of the control knobs that are placed on the top/side of the bass affects how you would position your body while playing it. Just a thought.

I’ve written this blog to share my enjoyment of music, the guitar and other instruments and I hope that I can offer information that might be useful to others who are interested in playing the guitar.
