Marriage ruined because husband saw wife’s face

Dd you know that a marriage in Saudi Arabia could end just because a husband wanted to see his wife’s face?

That’s what happened in the village of Khamis Mushayt when a man who’d been married to his 50 year old wife for 30 years decided to peek at his wife’s face under her veil as she slept. The man apologized stating he’d never do such a thing again, but she wants a divorce.

The customs of the village dictate that the marriage is now contaminated since he saw her face.

I know these are their customs, but I don’t really blame the man for wanting to have a look at the woman he’d been married to for 30 years. I certainly can’t imagine being married to someone and never seeing their full face.

Wow… 30 years and never seeing her face? That’s something I can’t even imagine. Seeing the other person is part of the joy of being married!

Really? I never thought there are things like that. For 30 years? It is not a joke for a couple to be together for that long..I hope that it would not just be the reason why the wife decided to cut their commitment for how many years only because of it. But then again, if it is her decision and beliefs, we just have to respect it anyway…

Wow! I’d say that the lady in this situation was definitely for following customs. I wonder did she catch him or did he tell her later that he had done it? A sad story either way.

Wow, this is a crazy story… I don’t think I could have lasted 30 years without seeing my wife. Kind of reminds me of “The Taliban Song” by Toby Keith.

I know I’ve done a lot of stupid things in my marriage… but nothing so trivial as this.

Wow, what about kissing? And gazing into each others eye’s? No, not for me thank you.

If this story is for real it is quite amazing. Of all the things to bring a marriage to an end. I can understand both sides, but it is tragic all the same. The rest of us wrestle with the normal communication, financial, boredom issues in a long marriage but this custom of not seeing your wife’s face is something else!
