Earlier this month a Toronto man went to check on his property in the central Ontario community of Dundalk only to find that his 10 year old double wide manufactured home was missing. Just think about that for a moment. It would be bad enough to find your place robbed, but completely gone? Yeah, that’s one for the books!

All that was left on the property was the foundation that the 45 foot double wide home had stood on. His home was too large to easily move so he was quite puzzled as to how someone could have stolen his home.

He went to the closest provincial police department in Southgate Township to make a complaint about the theft of his home.

As it turns out once the police were aware of the homes theft it didn’t take too long to find the missing $30,000 house. It was on a property not too far from its former location – how it got there is still unknown. Ownership documents found at the scene were found to be fraudulent.

Jeffrey LaForest of Southgate Township is charged with theft over $5,000, mischief, and uttering a forged document.

In early March my wife and I and her brother spent a fantastic Sunday doing things outdoors since the weather was so nice. I think it reached 19 C (66 F) that day which is extremely warm for Toronto, especially in March.

It was so nice that we actually took our dog to the beach so she could swim and play around in the waters of Lake Ontario.

After our trip to the beach we all felt hungry. I’d noticed that Stratengers Bar and Restaurant on Queen Street had it’s patio open when we drove by it earlier so I suggested that we go there to get something to eat. That way our dog could sit on the patio with us too.

We parked our car on a street just off off Queen St. East called Bertmount Ave, and it was on this street that we saw one of the most strangely decorated houses that any of us had ever seen!

It’s a good thing my wife had her camera with her because once I saw this house I knew I’d want to share it with you!

Here have a look for yourself:

Walking towards the house we just thought it had a lot of Christmas decorations up, a little late, but ok … but as we got closer we noticed it was so much more than just Christmas decorations …

There’s Easter, Halloween and just about any holiday that people decorate their houses for displayed in decorations on the front of the house. Not only that, but there’s a multitude of stuffed animals, action hero dolls, toys, plaques, signs etc …

Here’s a shot of the house from the middle of the street just to give you the scope of just HOW decorated this house is:

And a closer view …

Please feel free to click on these pictures to see a larger image. For this last one it’s almost a must if you want to see just how jam packed the decorations really are!

If someone wants to decorate there house that’s fine by me … but I’m glad I don’t live next door to, or even on the same street as this house as I imagine that if we wanted to sell our house we’d have some trouble getting our asking price with this house in the neighborhood! LOL

BTW when we finally got to Stratengers after a big picture taking session we had a nice meal and while talking to our waitress and then the owner of the restaurant we found out that Nash the Slash, the musician, goes to this restaurant almost every day. I expressed an interest in meeting him and just before we were about to leave the Restaurant owner came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder and with him was Nash the Slash – no bandages or makeup. He was really nice … check out the post I wrote about meeting Nash the Slash on my guitar blog.

All in all it was a very interesting day. I love it when an unplanned day turns up interesting and unexpected things.

Do you have any oddly decorated houses in your neighborhood? Care to share some pictures? Feel free to use the contact form to tell me about your odd stories and pictures and then we can set something up for posting.

A 74 year old blind woman was sent a letter by the city of Attleboro, Massachusetts, stating that a lien would be placed on her home if she didn’t pay her overdue water bill.

The worst thing about this? Her overdue bill was only 1 cent … yeah, that’s right. She owed the city one penny so they were about to put a lien on her home if she didn’t pay up!

Geez, I wonder how hard the city of Attleboro is on real criminals!

Isn’t that disgusting?

Eileen Wilbur told the Sun Chronicle of Attleboro that the letter sent her blood pressure soaring.

City Collector Debora Marcoccio says the letter was among 2,000 sent out.

She says a computer automatically prints letters for accounts with an overdue balance, and they are not reviewed by staff before being mailed, she said.

The letter warned of a lien and a $48 penalty if the overdue bill is not paid by Dec. 10.

The charge was from the previous fiscal year, which ran from July 2007 to July 2008.

Wilbur’s daughter, Rose Brederson, who discovered the bill in her mother’s mail, called the situation “ridiculous.”

But she said her mother, who has lived in the home since 1959, would likely end up paying the penny.

I think the city needs to review their billing process! Imagine being threated to have a lien on your home for a 1 cent bill!

The groom wore a white silk shirt with a sheet wrapped around his legs, and his new bride, Solis, 38, wore a strapless ivory dress, a tiara and hot-pink lipstick.

400 guests attended the civil wedding ceremony and Uribe broke into tears as the notary declared the couple husband and wife He later broke into tears as a notary declared the couple husband and wife.

The traditional first dance was improvised due to Uribe’s condition. The newlyweds held hands and swayed to the romantic ballad.

The wedding will apparently be featured on an upcoming Discovery Channel documentary about Uribe.

“I have a wife and will form a new family and live a happy life,” Uribe told hordes of reporters earlier as they followed him through the streets of Monterrey.

Yes, Uribe did leave his house for the wedding, but he was on a special custom-made bed decorated with a canopy, flowers and gold trimmed bows. The bed, carried on a flatbed truck, was taken to the local event hall where the wedding took place. Two police cars escorted the flatbed carrying Uribe.

Uribe tipped the scales in 2006 at 1,230 pounds, earning him the Guinness Book of World Records’ title for the world’s heaviest man. Since that time he’s managed to lose about 550 pounds with the help of Solis whom he met four years ago. Uribe stated that he’s gunning for a new world title – World’s largest weight loser.

In Mid-September a Nigerian Muslim court detained an 84 year old Islamic preacher with 86 wives after he failed to heed the call by local leaders to divorce all but four of them. (wow one and a bit wives for every year of his life!)

Mohamed Bello was charged with “insulting religious creed” and “unlawful marriages” after local chiefs and Muslim leaders gave him until September 7 to comply with Islamic sharia law, which allows a man to have no more than four wives at a time.

The preacher, who lives with his wives and some 170 children in the town of Bida, pleaded not guilty to the charges at an Upper Sharia Court in the state capital Minna.

Judge Abdul Imam, who rejected Bello’s bail application and ordered that he be remanded in prison to allow police complete their investigation, adjourned the case to October 6.

Bello’s detention came barely a week after he was granted temporary reprieve by a civil court in the Nigerian capital Abuja where he filed a petition against local chiefs and Muslim leaders who threatened to banish him if he failed to divorce 82 of his wives.

The preacher said the threats violated his right to life and personal liberty. The court gave Bello temporary protection from banishment, but the Niger State Sharia Commission decided on Monday to charge him at an Islamic court.

Bello had received a number of death threats after the Nigerian media began reporting on his unusual marital situation, his spokesman said.

Some newspapers said earlier in September that Bello had agreed at a meeting with local officials to divorce all but four of his wives and had asked for time to return them to their families.

But his spokesman later denied the reports and said the preacher intended to marry more wives instead.

His case has stirred controversy in Africa’s most populous nation of 140 million people, roughly half of whom are Muslim. Many Muslim scholars say Islam allows men to have up to four wives at any given time who must be treated equally.

Did you hear the story about the 33 year old mom who stole her daughter’s identity so that she could attend high school, join the cheer leading squad and basically fulfill her lost teen dreams?

Wendy Brown, the mom in question, is now facing a felony identity theft charge after she enrolled in ashwaubenon High School in Green Bay, as her 15 year old daughter. She was able to briefly get away with this because her daughter lives in Nevada with her mother.

According to the complaint, brown wanted to get her high school diploma and become a cheerleader because she didn’t have a childhood and wanted to regain a part of her life that she missed. She even went so far as to attend cheer leading practices before school started and received a cheer leading locker. She also attended a pool party at the cheer leading coach’s house.

The $134.50 check Brown gave to the cheer leading coach for her uniform bounced, the complaint said.

A high school employee, Kim Demeny, told authorities that the woman, posing as the teen, seemed very timid. Demeny said she told her she was not good at math and even cried when she talked about moving from Pahrump Valley High School in Nevada. Demeny said she looked older than a student but had the demeanor of a high school girl.

A school liaison officer started investigating after Brown only attended the first day of classes last week, the complaint said.

Assistant Principal Dirk Ribbins later learned Brown’s daughter was enrolled at Pahrump Valley High School. Ribbins also spoke with Brown’s mother, who told him she had custody of the girl. She said Brown has a history of identity theft crimes, the complaint said.

Brown made her first court appearance Friday by video conference. The judge set bond at $8,000.

If convicted, she could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Dd you know that a marriage in Saudi Arabia could end just because a husband wanted to see his wife’s face?

That’s what happened in the village of Khamis Mushayt when a man who’d been married to his 50 year old wife for 30 years decided to peek at his wife’s face under her veil as she slept. The man apologized stating he’d never do such a thing again, but she wants a divorce.

The customs of the village dictate that the marriage is now contaminated since he saw her face.

I know these are their customs, but I don’t really blame the man for wanting to have a look at the woman he’d been married to for 30 years. I certainly can’t imagine being married to someone and never seeing their full face.

New York’s Sal Carbone seems to be a pizza eating machine. Brooklyn organizers of the pizza eating contest state that Sal wolfed down just a bit more than 15 slices beating his own record of 15.

The contest is held annually at Rocco’s Pizzeria and Carbone was last years winner as well. The event raises money for the child welfare organization MercyFirst. The contest raised approximately $4000 for MercyFirst this year.

The runner up, William Millender, managed to eat 12 1/4 slices.

There was no word as to whether Carbone kept the slices down or how he felt after stuffing himself full of pizza.

Did you hear about the 8 year old Brazilian boy who’d always dreamed of becoming a judge? He just passed a law school entrance exam!

The news shocked Brazil’s legal profession and has prompted a federal investigation!

The Universidade Paulista, a multi-campus private university, issued a statement acknowledging that Joao Victor Portellinha de Oliveira had passed the entrance exam and that it initially enrolled him. But he was turned away from classes when he showed up with his father.

The University now claims that the fifth grader must graduate from high school before they’ll accept him into the university program. A university employee erred when they accepted Oliveira’s enrollment and said that the University fees would be returned to the family.

“I think they should have been more considerate,” the boy’s mother, Maristela, told the UOL news website. “At least they could’ve allowed him to visit the college’s facilities.”

The Brazilian Bar Association said the boy’s achievement should be a warning about the low standards of some of the country’s law schools.

Oliveira is two grade levels ahead of normal for his age, but his mother says he’s not a cloistered genius.

“He is a regular boy,” she told the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper. “He is very dedicated, likes to read and study, but he has fun and makes friends.”
