All that was left on the property was the foundation that the 45 foot double wide home had stood on. His home was too large to easily move so he was quite puzzled as to how someone could have stolen his home.

He went to the closest provincial police department in Southgate Township to make a complaint about the theft of his home.

As it turns out once the police were aware of the homes theft it didn’t take too long to find the missing $30,000 house. It was on a property not too far from its former location – how it got there is still unknown. Ownership documents found at the scene were found to be fraudulent.

Jeffrey LaForest of Southgate Township is charged with theft over $5,000, mischief, and uttering a forged document.

Dogs do strange things … but I have absolutely no idea how this one managed to get a bra strap looked around it’s neck … and end up stuck to a door! LOL

I’ve seen my dog do some pretty weird stuff .. but she’s never got her self caught in something – not yet anyway. Although I’m pretty sure the strange somersaults and jumping turns she does will get her into trouble someday.

Usually when a plane makes an unscheduled stop it’s because there’s a fire onboard, it has engine trouble or there’s some kind of medical emergency … but not in Canada! Nope! A beer theft on board an Air Canada Jazz flight on Tuesday caused the plane to divert.

Even the Mounties got involved!

Steve Holmes, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable told AFP that a passenger had stolen beer from a beverage cart and then tried to flush the empty cans down the jet’s toilet in order to dispose of the evidence. (Yeah like him wobbling around the craft drunk wouldn’t be noticed!)

The flight from Vancouver to Fort McMurray, Alberta was diverted to Kelowna, British Columbia, and police arrested the 23-year-old suds thief.

The man now faces charges of causing a disturbance on an aircraft, Holmes said.

Well folks, now you know what will happen if you steal booze on a Canadian flight!

Apparently the family had made a giant silver coated balloon and when it floated away from the families yard early this morning the family couldn’t find their young son so they assumed the boy had walked into the balloon and was trapped inside as it floated up to 7,000 feet in the air!

A frantic rescue operation took place that involved military helicopters and briefly shut down the Denver International Airport!

The boy’s father, Richard Heeney, said the family was tinkering with the balloon Thursday and that he scolded Falcon, the young boy who’d been presumed missing, for getting inside a compartment on the craft. He said Falcon’s brother had seen him inside the compartment before it took off and that’s why they thought he was in there when it launched.

But the boy fled to the attic at some point after the scolding and was never in the balloon during its two-hour, 50-mile journey through two counties. “I yelled at him. I’m really sorry I yelled at him,” Heene said as he hugged his son during a news conference.

“I was in the attic and he scared me because he yelled at me,” Falcon said. “That’s why I went in the attic.”

The balloon looks a bit like a flying saucer. It tipped precariously a few times before it eventually glided to the ground in a field. When the child wasn’t found inside the balloon or near it’s place of landing investigators began searching the balloons path. Apparently several people had reported seeing something fall from the craft while it was in the air, so I presume the searchers thought that the boy had fallen out of the balloon.

Apparently the boys parents are Storm Chasers and “When the Heene family aren’t chasing storms, they devote their time to scientific experiments that include looking for extraterrestrials and building a research-gathering flying saucer to send into the eye of the storm,”.

While the balloon was airborne, Colorado Army National Guard sent a UH-58 Kiowa helicopter and was preparing to send a Black Hawk UH-60 to try to rescue the boy, possibly by lowering someone to the balloon. They also were working with pilots of ultralight aircraft on the possibility of putting weights on the homemade craft to weigh it down.

It wasn’t immediately clear how much the search operation cost. Capt. Troy Brown said the Black Hawk helicopter was in the air for nearly three hours, and the Kiowa helicopter was airborne for about one hour. The Black Hawk costs about $4,600 an hour to fly, and the Kiowa is $700 an hour, Brown said.

While the balloon was afloat and rescue operations were underway the FAA canceled all northbound takeoffs between 1 pm and 1:15 pm (the balloon was about 15 miles northwest of the airport in that time period). Prior to the departure shutdown, controllers had been vectoring planes taking off in that direction away from the balloon.

When the 48 failed at his attempt to free himself from the handcuffs he walked to the police station to ask for help. Unfortunately for him the police didn’t believe his story. The did a background check on him to see if he’d been charged with any crimes in the past, but he had a clean record. I guess they believed he was an escaped criminal!

A locksmith finally came to his aid and freed the man. Why on earth didn’t he try a locksmith before going to the police?

I guess the moral of this story is that if you find handcuffs without any keys don’t play with them or else you might find yourself in a rather embarrassing situation!

Desiderio Fortunato of Coquitlam BC was asked by a U.S. border guard to turn off his vehicles engine, but when he asked the guard to be polite and say please he got a face full of pepper spray!

“I just said please,” Fortunato explained Thursday. “He said ‘get out of the car or I spray you’ and … I thought he was just trying to scare me off or something and I was pepper sprayed from a foot or two away.”

After being sprayed, Fortunato says that five or six border guards jumped on him, handcuffed him and questioned him for three hours. This all happened last Monday.

“I felt like I was attacked by a bunch of wolves. They jumped on me, they threw me to the ground and they kneeled on me.”

Fortunato, 54, was born in Portugal, but became a Canadian citizen almost 30 years ago.

During questioning from U.S. officials, he said, the first thing they wanted to know was where he was born. Once they knew he was of Portuguese origin their whole demeanor changed.

“Their shields dropped slightly down. It was like you know: OK he’s a Westerner, OK he’s not a Muslim, OK he’s a Christian, he’s one of us. That’s what I read (from them).”

Fortunato noted that the motto of U.S. Customs and Border Protection is to “serve the American public with vigilance, integrity and professionalism.”

“What is that, that’s what they pledge. I’m just asking for a please, and I get pepper spray in the face, and of course their argument is you must comply with anything an officer says.”

U.S. Customs spokesman Mike Milne said the officer made a lawful order that travelers must obey but the use of force is under review.

Fortunato said he spoke with the same guard later and the man seemed contrite.

He crosses the border two or three times a week to visit his second home in Blaine, Wash., and said he plans to go back.

But first he’ll need to send U.S. Customs an RCMP criminal record check and proof that he lives where he said he did.

He has no criminal record and said he isn’t worried about going back.

Fortunato, who travels the world competing in and teaching jazz dance, said he often deals with customs agents. “I just become more cynical,” he said.

Police are looking for a man they say stole two rings worth nearly $25,000 from a woman after grabbing her dog. Brunswick police Detective William Collins said a woman was walking her Shih Tzu on Monday when a man picked up the dog and demanded the rings if she wanted the dog back.

Police said the victim gave up her rings, and that the suspect fled on foot after returning the dog. The rings were a 6.57-carat sapphire with diamonds valued at $18,500 and a .96-carat diamond solitaire valued at $5,000.

The suspect was described as a professional-looking, clean-shaven white man in his late 20s or early 30s

This poor man was caught in a storm last March when Hurricane force winds literally blew him off his feet. What he was doing out there with a flimsy umbrella I don’t know, but he sure got taken for a ride! I hope he didn’t get hurt!
