Did you hear about the novel way that Hollywood has come up with to deal with their excessive pigeon problem? They’re giving pigeons the contraceptive pill.
At this time there are over 5000 pigeons in the Hollywood area. Campaigners against the pigeons want to give them birth control pills in the form of a drug called OvoControl P in an attempt to cut their numbers in half over the next five years.
The contraceptives are being fed to the pigeons via bird food pellets. In a news story that I saw regarding Hollywood’s pigeon problem it was noted that the birds don’t seem to like to eat these special pellets. Perhaps it has something to do with a local woman who’s known as the Bird Lady who’s been encouraging the birds by leaving large bags of bird feed in different areas.

I’m wracking my brain trying to figure out what kinds of gifts I could get my friends and family this coming Christmas. The idea of giving a pair of binoculars to a couple of these people occurred to me.
We’ve got really nosy neighbors … sometimes I think that I might as well give them a set of binoculars. Am I joking? Uh maybe, maybe not. They really are totally nosy. Why not make it easier for them to stare at us? They’re gonna do it anyway.
Nah, but I think my Uncle might find a pair of binoculars useful. He lives in an area where he can over see a beautiful park. He’s always telling us about the birds he sees- blue jays, cardinals, huge crows. You name it and he’s probably seen it. Yeah, I think I will get him a pair. He’s been great to us over the years and I think he’d use this gift and really enjoy it. Ok one down on the gift list. Muh hahahahah!
Hey, maybe I could do the same with my brother. He goes to a lot of baseball games and football games. What could be better than a pair of binoculars at a game? Yep, I think I nailed that one. Two down on the old gift list. I’m doing well aren’t I?
I have no idea what type I’d get for either of them though. There are so many brands and types of binoculars. I just went searching and I found a site that tells you how to buy binoculars. I think I might spend a bit of time there reading the information. Hopefully it will help me decide which type would be best for each of them. The site that I found that information on Opticsplanet.net also sells binoculars and offers free UPS shipping on orders over $29.95. I guess I’ll spend sometime looking at what they have to offer too.

Soccer’s for the Birds
Or at least that’s what one zoo in Japan believes:
A flock of the birds dressed in soccer jerseys showed off their dribbling and shooting skills at a Japanese zoo as football fever gripped the nation.
The four young carrion crows at Tokuyama Zoo in western Japan used their beaks to dribble a miniature ball toward a soccer goal, sometimes tackling each other for possession before scoring, according to head zookeeper Satoru Tanaka.
The crows get tidbits every time they score, Tanaka said.
“We tried to coach owls and falcons as well, but the crows were the best. They’re such intelligent creatures,” he said. The birds have only received about a month’s training, he added.
The zoo is now trying to teach the avian team to pass and take free kicks, according to Tanaka.
