When Cheers go bad …

It can be dangerous when you clink glasses with your friends!
It looks like the woman took the brunt of the glass breakage as she’s covered in beer.
Well if this is a true British Pub they serve their beer at room temperature so she’s probably not cold. I still wouldn’t want to be on her side of the table!
We often hear news stories about those who’ve been wrongly convicted being freed from jail, sometimes after being incarcerated for many years. The newly freed often sue the legals system for wrongful confinement.
Three men in Birmingham, England who were recently freed after respectively spending 18, 18 and 11 years in prison for murder, were, in separate trials, awarded a total of 2.16 million British pounds.
Unfortunately for these men the Court of Appeal ruled in March that the mean will each have to give back 25% of their award to the government as compensation for their “room and board”. You know, those tiny cells they stayed in and the awful prison food that they were served for years.
Isn’t that outrageous!
Working in a hospital I know that people, especially kids but not exclusively kids, put things in strange places. The nose and ear are the areas where foreign objects are most often placed by children.
Strange things get in our ears and noses by no fault of our own as well. Medical literature is full of reports of insects crawling into or nesting in peoples ears. One recent case was newsworthy - In May an Albany Ore child had a spider the size of a pencil eraser in her ear. She had to go to the doctors office to have it removed.
The child, Jesse Courtney, was no worse for wear and thought the whole experience was kind of cool even bringing the then dead spider to school to show it off.
Apparently in 1993 there was a British machinist who had bad earaches. It was found that he had a pregnant spider living in his ear. He ended up keeping the spider as a pet once it was extricated from his ear.
Well here’s another one for the Brits! They have retained supremacy in High-Speed sofas.
A few weeks ago, Marek Turowski drove a motorized chesterfield down a runway. He managed to attain a speed of 147 km hour.
The motorized furniture is made by Edd China, and believe it or not the sofa is officially street legal for driving! This new ultimate relaxation vehicle will be used to raise money for charity.
Turowski said of his feat: “It was terrifying. You feel every bump.” The previous record of 139 km/h was also set by a British sofa.
You’d think that it would have been a more comfortable ride would you? They’ll have to put more shock absorbers in upcoming models.
