Cingular changes name back to AT&T

Isn’t it strange how some of the cellular service companies have been buying each other out, and changing names back and forth? I mean, surely you remember when At&T became Cingular? Well now Cingular is changing back over to AT&T again.

I don’t really care what name they go by, but it seems like poor business planning to keep changing the name of the company back and forth doesn’t it? When consumers like a product they often become faithful to the brand name even if there are better products or service out there. They just refuse to think about another brand name once they find one they like. Think about it. How many people do you know that only purchase GM cars, or perhaps only Ford? Once a die hard brand lover always a die hard brand lover.

Don’t you think AT&T should have thought about that when they changed their name to Cingular? Well perhaps they have been thinking about it now and that’s why they are changing back to AT&T.

Speaking of cellular services, you’ve probably heard all the buzz about the Apple iPhone. Well, when it first came out it was one of exclusive Cingular phones in their line of product and service offerings. Now that the name is changing back over to AT&T the Apple iPhone will probably end up being the first cell phone under the new AT&T brand.

I think that maybe AT&T would have been better off changing their name earlier in order to make a solid launch of the Apple iPhone product. It would have been better for name branding and consumer dedication to a brand name I think.

What do you think? Does it matter to you whether the cellular service is called Cingular or At&T? Where you loyal to one brand name over the other in the past? If so, why?

Either way, I think the Apple iphone will sell well no matter what the company that sells it is called. I mean it’s a great new phone just jam packed with features.

Which cell phone would you get?

Wirefly has just released it’s list of the top 10 cell phones of 2006. They based their list of top cell phones on sales that the company has made throughout the year.

The number one best seller was, hands down, the Cingular Wireless Razr by Motorola. I don’t know about you but I believe that I see a television commercial for this sell phone and wireless package just about every single day. I’m not the least bit surprised that it tops the list. In fact, there are three different mobile phone packages that include Motorolas popular Razr phone in the first three spots on top 10 list. Spot number two is for the T-Mobile Razr, and spot three is for the Verizon Wireless Razr.

I have to admit that we were slow to join the age of the cell phone. We’ve always kept up on the latest technology but for the longest time we just didn’t have any need for a cell phone. Finally, I think it was in the late 90’s, we purchased our first cell phone. That first one was a Nokia and when it was accidentally lost about a year after we first got it, we purchased a Motorola phone. Now we’re back to a Nokia. I’d love to try out the new Razr but we don’t need a second phone right now and the Nokia is only 6 months old.

The other phones that made the list were the Cingular Sony Ericsson z520a/z525a video phones, T-Mobile Motorola v360, Verizon Wireless Motorola v276, Sprint Nextel Motorola i850, Sprint Nextel Motorola i710, Cingular Motorola v220,and the T-Mobile Samsung T309.

If we were thinking of getting another cell phone or a new one I think we’d check out the Razr. It just looks like a handy phone being so thin and light and it’s jam packed with all of the latest features that you’d want in a phone.

Do you have any of these cell phones and wireless packages? How do you feel about the Razr making the top of the list?
