Tipping the Man

Someone out there likes the men in Blue. Harris County deputy constables have been finding 100 dollar bills under the windshield wipers of their patrol cars. Was it a joke? Apparently not. The bills turned out to be real.

Constable Ron Hickman Says they figure that the bills are from someone trying to do a good deed. Too bad the cops can’t keep the dough. They’re donating the $400 collected so far to a local social services group.

I wonder if this sign prompted the kind citizens donations?

Immigration problems blamed on past abortions?

Greenleaf idaho recently passed an ordinance that requires nearly all of the cities residents to keep a gun at home in case the town becomes overrun by people relocating after Gulf Coast Storms. OMG do they think the refugees are going to loot their town and homes? Geesh!

Here’s another odd way of looking at things- A recent report from the Missouri House’s Special Committee on Immigration Reform has blamed much of their states acquiescence ot illegal immigration on the fact that since Roe V. Wade in 1973, 80,000 potential Missourians have been aborted, thus helping to create job vacancies for aliens.

Uhm isn’t that like counting your chickens before they hatch? They’re blaming the immigration problems that they have now on abortions that have taken place over the last 33 years? I wonder how much this report cost the tax payers?

What people won’t do for stature

The newest self improving form of torture -

In October, health officials in China again warned citizens against the increasingly popular but seriously painful leg-stretching Ilizarov procedure. The procedure is believed to add as much as a couple of inches to a person’s height and stature.

The patient’s leg is deliberately broken and affixed to a rack, with the leg stretched slightly every day so that the bones fuse together to cover the separated space, lengthening the leg. One 33-year-old, 5-foot-tall woman in 2002, aiming for four more inches said “I’ll have a better job and a better husband. It’s a long-term investment.”

I think I’ve heard of procedures similar to this being used for people who are born with on leg shorter than the other, but never to purely gain inches in height.

And in Wrestling news

Can you imagine being trapped in these jaws?

A 61 year old Australian woman Alicia Sorohan was recently awarded Australia’s star of bravery which recognizes citizens for outstanding acts of bravery.

In October, 2004 she was camping with friends on the Northern Cape York Peninsula when she was awakened early one morning byt the sound of screaming. The family friend, Andrew Kerr, was being dragged out of his tent by a 300kg 4 metre long salt water crocodile.

Lucky for Kerr, Sorohan had eaten her wheaties that morning and she promptly “did what anyone would do” (Would You?) and jumped onto it’s back and started wrestling with it to free her friend from the jaws of the large reptile.

Disrupted from it’s attempt at a free meal the croc turned on her, breaking her nose and almost ripping her arm off before the gigantic crocodilian was shot by her son Jason. Sorohan sustained permanent damage to her arm, stating she doesn’t have full movement. Repairs included two permanent plates and 12 screws in her arm.

She says “It was pretty scary but it’s one of those things - if you see someone in trouble you’ve got to help them. He was a big one but I’d do the same again.” Sorohan and her family have since returned to the campsite, reasoning that there is risk anywhere, and that she could just as easily be run over by a bus while crossing the road.

That’s one brave lady!

BTW I didn’t add this story to enforce the fear of reptiles in people. I’m actually a reptile owner and one of my good internet friends Dr. Adam Britton does quite a bit of research on Crocodile and alligator poplulations worldwide.
