Smugglers using bugs as drug mules?

Smugglers will try anything won’t they? The latest interesting smuggling attempt involves bugs as mules.

Fortunately the smugglers attempt wasn’t successful.

A customs officer in the Netherlands too a close look at a consignment of more than 100 larger dead beetles that had been send from Peru and discovered that cocaine had been stashed inside them.

“We see a lot of things, but this was a first for us,” customs spokesman Kees Nanninga said.

“It looked like they were cut open, the drugs hidden in their backs and then they were glued back together again,” he said.

In total the insects held about 10 ounces of cocaine said to be worth about $11,000.

Coffin Purchases are apparently a big tip off

You’d think most police officers would have an idea when eight people are murdered, but apparently the Columbian Police were unaware of some suspicious murders until the victims relatives decided to purchase coffins for the burial of their murdered relatives.

The province in Columbia, near Ecuador, in which the coffins were purchased is a key Cocaine production area. Leftist rebels and drug gangs frequently fight over smuggling routes in the area.

Now that the police have become suspicious about the deaths of eight people they are investigating the case. Police said the murders appeared to be part of a robbery where one trafficking group stole a large amount of coca base from another group and used it to make cocaine.

A different kind of police chase

An interesting police chase took place last week near the town of Dussen Amsterdam last week. A Dutch farmer couldn’t believe his eyes as he watched a car drive through his corn fields only to be joined by two police vehicles in hot pursuit. A helicopter also joined in the chase.

The drive of the car was under the influence of cocaine as he drove wildly through the field.

The 35 year old man was eventually cornered after his vehicle careened into a neighboring orchard and crashed into a ditch.

“Shoot out two tyres… then the problem is solved,” irate farmer Ad Van Schendel told police, according to the Brabants Dagblad newspaper.

Damage to the cornfield was estimated at 7,000-8,000 euros (4,700-5,380 pounds).

A shot in the dark

A Port St. Lucie Florida woman has been held on a gun charge after she claimed that she accidently shot her husband in the head after being startled by the burglar alarm.

April Moylan, 39 years of age, was charged on Wednesday with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and has been ordered held on a $75,000 bond.

Sheriff Ken mascara stated on Wednesday that the attorney’s office is going over the facts of the case and additional charges could be laid in the future.

Now here’s where the story takes a strange turn:

April’s husband, Michael Eugene Moylan, 45, awoke early Tuesday morning with a severe headache. The couple went to the hospital where the bullet was discovered in Moylan’s head.

It was first thought that Moylan might have been the victim of a stray bullet but it was later discovered that the couples stories didn’t match up.

The couple finally fessed up and told authorities that April sleeps with a loaded .32 caliber gun under her pillow. When the burglar alarm sounded at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning she grabbed the gun and it accidentally discharged a bullet into her husbands head just behind his ear.

The couple hadn’t wanted to tell the truth because they are both convicted felons and as a result are not allowed to own a gun so they came up with the headache story.

April was previously convicted for sale and delivery of cocaine in Palm Beach County. At this time her husband Michaels criminal record is not available.

Michael Moylan’s head wound was not considered life threatening. He’s recovering in the hospital.

It seems that Michael is a lucky man! I wonder what other charges the couple might face when the investigate concludes?
