Spontaneous dance

Wordless Wednesday

IMG_1229

On Friday we went out with my wifes family to a Blue Jays baseball game at the Skydome or what’s now called the Rogers Center here in Toronto.

When we were leaving the game we passed a few guys playing music on the walkway leading back to the street from the stadium. One of the guys was playing an accordion and as you can see from the photo above it was a lively piece of music. People spontaneously began to dance as they passed the small band.

Who says we don’t know how to have fun here in Toronto?

The misplaced Pole dancing kit

still_got_it

Well, this story is more about adolescent girls but a poles a pole …

This past October, Tesco Stores in Britain agreed that a kit that taught women how to pole dance - advertised on it’s website as something to “unleash the sex kitten inside”, with a garter and a suggestive DVD, was unsuitable to have been placed for sale in it’s Toy section. The fear was that it might have been appealing to adolescent girls. Tesco moved it to it’s physical fitness section.

Yeah … “Lets get physical, physical …”

Strange Facts

Strange Facts and Tales

Stephen King, author of numerous best-selling horror novels — many of which have been turned into equally terrifying movies - once made the following observation: “Some people say that I must be a terrible person, but it’s not true. I have the heart of a young boy. In a jar on my desk.”

Reports claim that in Providence, R.I., it was once illegal on Sundays to sell toothpaste and a toothbrush to the same customer.

With the holiday gift-giving season coming up, you might want to keep this in mind: Statistics show that 20 percent of people who receive gift cards as presents never spend the full amount.

Thought for the Day: “If there is anything the nonconformist hates worse than a conformist, it’s another nonconformist who doesn’t conform to the prevailing standard of nonconformity.” — Bill Vaughan

Ever heard of “ochlocracy”? Probably not, but at times it seems like we may be experiencing it. “Ochlocracy” means “mob rule.”

It was in 1961 that singer Bing Crosby predicted “rock ‘n’ roll has run its course.”

What do Mao Zedong, Vladimir Lenin and Eva Peron have in common? After they died, their remains were mummified. King Charles the First’s body was turned into a mummy, too — but not his head. The body of Mata Hari, exotic dancer and notorious World War I spy, was not mummified after she was executed by firing squad — but her head was.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s statistics on worker fatalities, the most dangerous job in the country is truck driver. Next is farm worker, then sales supervisor/store owner and construction worker. Police detective rounds out the top five most dangerous occupations. Interestingly, cashier comes in at No. 10.

Now wasn’t that interesting?

Confederate Dress

Now I always thought that going to your prom meant getting dressed up in a fancy gown, having a great date to enjoy the night with, partying with your friends and perhaps being chauffeured around in your first ever limo rental. Am I right? Isn’t that what most girls dream of for prom night?

Well it seems that Jacqueline Duty, of Lexington, Ky. had slightly different thoughts. She wanted to celebrate her heritage by wearing a Confederate flag prom dress. It seems to School district didn’t like her choice of Prom wear and they decided to ban her from the prom. This took place back in 2004. Jacqueline sued the school district and the county and won an out of court settlement valued at $50,000.

Poor girl, she missed the prom but ended up with a windfall!
