Microscope gift for kids and hobbyists

I don’t know about you but I’m starting to try to think up gift ideas for my relatives- especially my nephews and nieces. I buy them toys and games most years but I want to try to do something a little different this year.

One of my nephews is a curious kid and I was thinking that he might enjoy getting a microscope as a gift. He’s always exploring things – asking to use his grand fathers magnifying glass so he can get a better look at a particularly interesting bug or rock. So why not get him a microscope?

Who knows- I’ve got 4 nephews on my side of the family, and I think at least two them would enjoy microscopes as a gift. I was visiting Optics Planet and that’s where I got the idea. They carry brand name microscopes of all types from simple microscopes suitable for a child, right up to scientific stereo, compound, digital, photo or video camera microscopes. Its a huge assortment. Take a look at their huge selection of microscopes and microscope accessories including all types of loupes magnifiers.

I can picture kids, hobbyists, high school students, and medical students being thrilled with the gift of a microscope. Optics Planet has such a variety of microscopes that they have started a new site www.microscopes.com that while it’s still in the works, is open for business.

If you like my idea you’ll love the deal that optics planets has right now- you could save up to 70% off, and they offer Free UPS on orders over $29.95, extended warranties, and a no hassle holiday return policy. If a microscope or microscope accessories sound like a good gift idea check out Optics Planet.

Police in Germany get amazing tip

We’ve all heard of police finding finger prints at the scene of a crime but how often do they get the original print too?

Police in Germany got just that, when a careless burglar left behind a vital clue at a break-in when he sliced off the end of a finger on a broken window while committing a robbery.

The police were able to match the piece of finger with existing prints they had from a 15-year-old of Iraqi origin. The youth initially denied breaking and entering into an office to steal a computer but confessed when police produced the digital remnant.

I wonder if the police kept the “tip” on ice while they sought the criminal or not?

Almost changed to Satellite TV today

I’ve had quite the day! Earlier today we had a cable company technician here for three, yes three hours! We had to call the company the other night because we noticed that some of the shows were were taping or just plain watching were getting digital interference. Sometimes it was so bad that the picture totally pixilated and you couldn’t tell what the actors were saying. It was terrible.

Ever since we moved here we’ve had problems with the signal. Apparently the cabling or equipment in our area is very old and that results in the houses in the area getting poor cable and even internet signals. They’ve known about the problem for several years now. This is not the first time we’ve had a tech here for two, three or even four hours trying to fix the problem or at least manipulate the equipment enough to get a slightly better signal. This is starting to make my stomach Churn, I’m so frustrated.

I swear earlier today we were thinking about switching to satellite TV instead. I figure that’s got it’s own particular set of problems though so I’ll wait a while and see how the work that was done today works out.
