A Hayward, California man who spent five hours naked and stuck in the chimney of his stepmother’s home was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs, police said.
Police say the 23 year-old man locked himself out of the house early Saturday morning and decided to get in using a cable TV wire through the chimney.
But the wire broke and the man fell, getting stuck about three quarters of the way down. He was freed when a firefighter pushed him to safety.
“We get him up, and he’s naked as a jaybird,” said Hayward police Lt. Gary Branson. “He tells us he took his clothes off because there would be less friction going down the chute. We did find his clothes. So that part checked out.”
Authorities were called in early Saturday. A neighbor heard “faint, distressing” calls since about 2:30 a.m. and decided to call police.
Police say it probably wasn’t a comfortable few hours for the man.
“He”s not fat,” Branson said, “but he used to play football. He’s not that little.”
Yep, I always enter my house through the chimney when I lock myself out. You wouldn’t believe how often I have to do that.

What day is it anyway?
A 27-year-old woman was arrested in League City, Texas, in February after police discovered her 6-year-old daughter wandering around her empty school yard on a Saturday morning. The woman said she dropped the kid off, as usual, but that she was distracted and didn’t realize it was Saturday.
A Tight Squeeze
A Taradale man learned two important lessons yesterday. One was that if you’re leaving your home you should carry a key to the front door with you … and, secondly, that if you’re going to try and get in through a window, pick a big one.His attempts to get into his own home resulted in an odd predicament at about 9.30 a.m.. He also provided his neighbours with a humorous story to tell for years to come..
“He was very embarrassed,” a fire service spokesman said. The young man had tried to ease his way through a fanlight window in the washroom, but only got as far as getting his arms and shoulders in before becoming wedged in the window frame.
Firefighters removed a latch and were able to fully open the window, freeing him.
A report that one onlooker cried “encore” after he was freed could not be confirmed.
Strange house to house chase
Two men are in custody after an alleged crime spree that included stealing a police officer’s car.
The strange chain of events began when two men accused of stealing a U-Haul truck stopped at a McDonalds. It just so happened a Lynnwood officer was at the fast food restaurant at the same time.
“And in the parking lot are the two suspects. As the officer approached, the suspects fled on foot,” said Shannon Sessions of the Lynnwood Police Department.
Police used dogs to track the men to a nearby neighborhood. As officers asked residents to stay inside, a woman told them two men stopped by her house looking for someone who no longer lived there. In fact, the men were still in her living room.
An officer drove over to have a look, leaving his patrol car running in the driveway.
“Sure enough, it was the suspects,” Sessions said. ” As the officer was getting them on the ground at gun point, one fled, got into the officer’s patrol car and took off.”
The chase was on. The suspect drove with the lights flashing, until a dead end stopped him. He crashed the police cruiser into a line of trees.
Again he took off on foot, and again dogs were on the trail — and again the suspect ended up in someone’s house.
This time, when a couple came home they noticed something: the blinds were closed — something they never do. So they called the police.
“Officers surrounded the house, went inside and the suspect was in a bed, under the covers — he was arrested,” said Sessions.
Police say the suspect did take time to eat an Otter Pop from the couple’s freezer before hiding in their bed. He and his alleged accomplice face charges of burglary, auto theft, and eluding police.
