Fraud scheme included eating glass!

Did you hear about the man, Ronald Evano, that was sentenced last month to more than five years in jail due to his role in a fraud scheme in which he and his wife are said to have intentionally eaten glass fragments in order to collect more than $200,000 in compensation from a multi-state insurance company?

Evano was also ordered to repay as much as $340,000 for his role in defrauding insurers, grocery stores, restaurants, hospitals and doctors in the scheme in which both he and his wife claimed that there was glass in the food that they had eaten.

The couple filed fraudulent insurance claims worth more than $200,000 and incurred more than $100,000 in unpaid medical bills between 1997 and 2005 across several states.

Evano plead guilty to charges in federal court to 20 counts of mail fraud, conspiracy, wire fraud, identity theft, and making false statements on health care matters and social security fraud.

Evano’s wife, Mary, remains a fugitive. An arrest warrant has been issued for Mary Evano listing the same charges that her husband plead guilty to in August.

Evano asked the judge for mercy, saying in court that he and his wife are members of the minority Roma community, and needed the money to pay for dowries and other costs associated with the marriages of his sons under cultural practices.

Industrious doctor!

Psychiatrist Ajit Trikha was looking like the busiest doctor in the world for a while. As it turns out, he wasn’t doing quite as much work as the invoices that he sent to Medicare made it seem.

You see, he finally came clean and plead guilty this past June to defrauding Medicare and Medicaid of approximately 1.85 million dollars. He’d sent in invoices claiming that he worked more than 24 hours a day on 76 different occasions.

One invoice claimed that he’d worked 40 hours in one day. Another said that he’d treated 83 patients in only 2 1/2 hours on another day. Another claim that he’d made stated that he’d treated patients 1,267 times in Belleville, Ill where his office was located, while he was traveling in Europe.

Unless he can stop time or teleport himself there’s no way any of these claims could have been true. If you ask me the doctor wasn’t so wise at all!

Protesting man lured from perch by topless photo

Did you hear the true story about how a woman lured her husband from a self made box that was perched on top of a 72 foot pole? No? Well he’d been up there protesting a looming jail term when his wife lured him down with a topless picture of herself that she’d included in the lunch that she’d sent up to him.

The hope and promise of a romp does it every time it seems.

2007_03_02t131817_300×450_us_germany_protest_topless.jpg Fred Gregor, 45 of Germany, was trying to have his 15 month conviction for fraud over turned by staying in his small cubicle which was perched high up on a converted television mast.

When interviewed over the telephone, he told Reuters that he wanted a new trial. His wife Susanne, 25, had originally backed up his protest until she eventually decided she’d had enough. Susanne is a former stripper. No wonder that topless photo worked! Together she and Fred are the parents of five children.

Perhaps now he’ll appeal his conviction just like most other people do when they feel that they’ve been wrongly convicted.

Inti-mate Sex

What some people won’t do for a little lovin’? tiffany Weaver assumed the identity of a local lawyer, presently on maternity leave, and managed to have sex with a prison inmate who was in for manslaughter serving a 30 year sentence.

Now Weaver herself faces up to 10 years in prison on a number of charges which include forgery and fraud. The real lawyer got a laugh out of the whole thing when she heard that she’d apparently had sex with an inmate.

The world is an Odd odd place.
