Luxury hotels gone to the dogs?

Hotels in Hawaii are pampering their guests, including the four-legged variety. A growing number of tourists want to bring Fido along for a trip to the islands.

The Kahala, one of Oahu’s most luxurious hotels, gives its tail-wagging guests fresh-baked biscuits, with their names inscribed on the top.

The hotel also offers dog-walking and pet pillows alongside the guest beds. The Sheraton Princess and Four Seasons Resort Maui are among other upscale hotels which also offer the lush life to small critters.

Longest Eyelash

» by Chris in: Recreation

Well here’s something a parent can be proud of - Jay Matze’ daughter Jolie has become a record setting girl. Jolie was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest eyelash in the world.

The eyelash was getting long last year, but Jolie let it keep growing and it reached a final length of 6.4 centimeters, or 2.52 inches. The record was verified by the Roanoke County Police department who measured the length of the lash and took a photograph of it. Guinness Sent Jolie a letter of authentication and a certificate to commemorate the occasion.

She’s since cut her single extraordinarily long lash.

What people won’t do for stature

The newest self improving form of torture -

In October, health officials in China again warned citizens against the increasingly popular but seriously painful leg-stretching Ilizarov procedure. The procedure is believed to add as much as a couple of inches to a person’s height and stature.

The patient’s leg is deliberately broken and affixed to a rack, with the leg stretched slightly every day so that the bones fuse together to cover the separated space, lengthening the leg. One 33-year-old, 5-foot-tall woman in 2002, aiming for four more inches said “I’ll have a better job and a better husband. It’s a long-term investment.”

I think I’ve heard of procedures similar to this being used for people who are born with on leg shorter than the other, but never to purely gain inches in height.

Rent a Pilgrim

If you are a Roman Catholic and you’ve vowed to make the pilgrimage to Fatima in Portugal, famous for religious visions, but you can’t fulfill your promise you can now rent-a-pilgrim.

Pilgrim Gil will make the journey in your place for the low fee of 2,500 euros (1,671 pounds), and he’ll even send you a certificate stamped along the way to prove he walked your every step.

Carlos Gil, 42, is also a rent-a-pilgrim. He took up this practice four years ago when he suddenly “felt an urge to walk to Fatima” and said charging each client was simply a way to keep doing what he loves. Gil says “It is a romantic way for my clients to thank God for what they have, like buying a candle or a plaster statue of Fatima,”.

To guarantee to his clients that he made the trip on foot, Gil has a system of handing his customers a certificate after every journey with various stamps from places along the way.
