Accident scatters millions of dollars worth of hashish

At the beginning of March a van carrying illicit cargo in Amsterdam crashed and scattered it across the road. Three tonnes of hashish went up in smoke when the Dutch authorities incinerated the illicit cargo from the crashed van.

Detectives hunted for the van’s driver and passenger who fled the scene after the accident. It’s unknown if the occupants were injured. It’s estimated that the pair left behind about $23.5 million dollars worth of goods including the van. Police were busy tracing the van’s ownership but feared that it might have been stolen or leased.

The accident happened during the morning rush hour on a highway outside of the town of Avenhorn, about 30 kilometres north of Amsterdam.

The driver lost control of the vehicle as he or she was heading towards Amsterdam. Witnesses watched the van hit a barrier, flip and crash into another car before coming to a rest. Packages of hash were strewn over the area, and hundreds more were found stacked on wooden pallets in the van.

Marijuana and hash are technically illegal in the Netherlands, but under the country’s tolerance policy, police do not arrest anybody for possession of small amounts. It is sold openly in licensed shops, which, paradoxically, have no way of legally acquiring their chief product.

Cop teaches criminals how to get away

This is one of those stories that just makes you shake your head in wonder.

Former Police officer, Barry Cooper of Tyler Texas has created a video that he’s called “Never Get Busted Again”. Cooper, a former Narcotics officer, hailed as one of the best, says that the video shows how to hid the stash, fool dope sniffing dogs and avoid narcotics profiling. He thinks that the war on drugs is a waste of money and favors the legalization of marijuana.

The cops Cooper worked with in the past are upset over the video and one says that he’s going to investigate whether the drug tip video violates the law.

I can see criminals teaching each other the tricks of the trade, but a cop teaching them how to avoid getting caught? That just doesn’t seem right.

A lot of Weed for one deep sleep

How much pot does it take to get to sleep?

After police found 638 marijuana plants in a Hastings, England, warehouse rented by David Churchward in September, he said he was forced to grow the plants (which would make more than 280,000 marijuana cigarettes) to help his wife, because she has difficulty sleeping. And Reuters reported in September that a farm woman in Lobez, Poland, who had been charged with growing marijuana, said she was forced to because her cow had been acting “skittish and unruly” until she put cannabis in the feed.

I wonder if this little guy has been eating any marijuana munchies, or if he just needs some sleep too?

Lawyer can’t think Logically?

At the Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court in England in July, Andrew Curzon was charged with wrongfully attempting to cash a neighbor’s pension-adjustment check, in the equivalent of about $220,000. The explanation by Curzon (who is a law student) is that he has “dyspraxia,” which renders him unable “to engage in logical thinking.”
