Another person’s garbage could be your big find

Do you ever dream of finding something that’s worth big bucks? Well, for one woman that dream came true.

An abstract masterpiece was found in the trash by a woman who really didn’t know much about modern art. The painting subsequently sold for a million dollars.

The painting was discovered back in 2003 by Elizabeth Gibson. She spotted the canvas on her morning walk as she strolled Manhattan’s upper west side. She felt the painting was powerful.

It turns out that the painting was “Tres Personajes” by Rufino Tamayo. It’s a brightly colored abstract and it was purchased by phone at Sotheby’s Latin American art sale.

The painting was actually stolen. Gibson searched for years for information about the painting. She finally came across an article about the painting on Antiques Roadshow’s website. The article stated the painting had been stolen in 1989.

Gibson received a reward of $15,000 for returning the valuable painting and she’ll also get a portion of the sales price.

It certainly pays to keep your eyes open when walking through city streets!

A million dollars an inch!

There was an auction at Sotheby’s Auction House in New York recently for a miniature Faberge chair. The chair sold at auction for nearly 2.3 million dollars.

The chair is just over two inches tall. This works out to just over a million dollars per inch!

Officials at Sotheby’s figured that the chair would sell for only one million dollars. Experts state that this chair is extremely rare, and that it was created by the Russian jeweler Carl Faberge who made the jewel encrusted eggs for the Czars in the late 1800′s.

Jackpot disputed settled?

Real estate agent, Florida Eash might be a step closer to becoming a millionaire. The woman had been in a dispute with the I-P casino.

She’s apparently used a slot machine and thought she’d won a million dollars, but the I-P casino had stated that the slot machine had been mistakenly programmed by a technician.

Lucky for Eash the Mississippi Gaming Commission is in agreement with Eash stating that she did indeed win a million dollars.

The casino had contended that Eash was entitled to only eight thousand dollars, but now that the states gaming commission has ruled in favor of Eash she should have a million dollars coming her way soon.
