Koi microchips

This sounds really strange to me – The owner of the China Rose restaurant in Freeport, Maine, will be reunited with the ten fish seized from his aquarium last summer, if he meets requirements including having microchips inserted into them, for tracking purposes. I’ve never heard of a fish having a microchip installed. Is that even possible?

A three-member panel voted unanimously to issue a permit to allow Cuong Ly to keep his koi.

The panel members were from the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Ly regards the koi as part of his family, as well as a source of good luck for his business.

Maine wildlife officials have said that the koi could be a threat to native species if they were somehow released into the wild. Ly’s happy to get his fish back, but he’s unhappy with the restrictions that prevent them from being displayed at his restaurant. The fish have been displayed in the restaurant’s lobby for 15 years. the board set other conditions as well – the koi cannot be sold, traded or given away; they cannot be bred; and the department must be notified within 24 hours if one of the fish dies.

I never knew there were such restrictions for keeping Koi. People all over North America keep Koi in their ponds. Are we going to see more restrictions throughout N.A. regarding this member of the Carp family?

Womans cancer ultimately causes death of son and husband?

Taste Tester?

A Bulgarian woman who killed her son was released from prison because of terminal cancer. She then went home and killed her husband.

The woman had been sentenced to 15 years in jail for killing her 29-year-old son with a garden hoe in April 2005 while he was sleeping. However, last month, authorities judging her to be in the final stages of cancer let her go home to pass away in peace with her husband at her side. Unfortunately things must have gone terribly wrong once she was home because that was where she stabbed her husband in the throat with a knife.

“It was established she was in the last stage of cancer, she had it all over her body,” said a spokeswoman for the Bourgas regional police. They had presumed she was feeling bad and that she would treat herself and rest. Little did they know that she would become aggressive and end up killing her husband.

The woman, 57 years of age at the time of her second murder, was from a village in eastern Bulgaria and she has been taken into custody again and is awaiting a new trial.

Even in jail her aggression towards her family continues, she’s threatened that, if she is released again, she will kill her second son as well.

I kind of feel sorry for the woman. I know that cancer can change a persons personality, particularly when it affects the brain, but I bet there were some deep seated feelings of hurt and resentment that set off her murdering spree. Perhaps she’d been an abused wife and mother before becoming ill with cancer?
