How would you like to have been one of the custom officials opening up a package that had come from Hong Kong that had been marked “personal clothing” only to find about 300 live scorpions and spiders!

The scorpions and spiders had been packed in nets, bottles and transparent plastic boxes and were concealed under clothing and newspapers within the package. Tarantulas were also included in the spider tally.

“The scorpions almost bit the examiner,” Nelson Ebio, a port collector at the Central Mail Exchange Center, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. It was the first time the post office had encountered such poisonous mail, he said.

The package had arrived from Hong Kong on a Monday, but it wasn’t clear who had sent the package or why although it’s been speculated that the package was intended for someone who collects these types of invertebrates and insects. My guess, having been involved in reptile keeping, is more along the lines that these creatures were being smuggled into the country illegally for the pet trade.

Working in a hospital I know that people, especially kids but not exclusively kids, put things in strange places. The nose and ear are the areas where foreign objects are most often placed by children.

Strange things get in our ears and noses by no fault of our own as well. Medical literature is full of reports of insects crawling into or nesting in peoples ears. One recent case was newsworthy - In May an Albany Ore child had a spider the size of a pencil eraser in her ear. She had to go to the doctors office to have it removed.

The child, Jesse Courtney, was no worse for wear and thought the whole experience was kind of cool even bringing the then dead spider to school to show it off.

Apparently in 1993 there was a British machinist who had bad earaches. It was found that he had a pregnant spider living in his ear. He ended up keeping the spider as a pet once it was extricated from his ear.

I don’t know if you’ve heard yet, but a new search engine will soon be launching. Megaglobe - New International Search Engine. Megagloge is spidering the web, collecting sites for it’s search engine. This will be beneficial to advertisers and websites that place pay per click types of advertising on their sites, because as you might know Google is having a huge problem with click fraud right now with it’s adsense products. MegaGlobe hopes to eliminate this type of fraud which will make pay per click advertising work so much better for website owners and advertisers alike.

When Megaglobe launches it will be available in 45 languages which means it will be able to service the whole world. I think this is going to be an amazing search engine as it will operate from over 300 individual country-specific URL’s, and it will be translated into hundreds of languages. Plus it will employ a unique and sophisticated algorithm to improve the quality of Internet searching. I think MegaGlobe could easily become a rival to Google if it turns out to be as good as it sounds in the press releases.

When Megaglobe launches I want to explore it. I just have a feeling that it’s going to be another great search engine. It looks like MegaGlobe will be offering some kind of ad system. I could be wrong about that though, I’m just guessing since it has developed the click fraud prevention coding. I’m not sure if will offer a way for website owners to make money on their websites through the use of their ads or if the ads will just be on the megaglobe pages.
