And you think you’ve got spam problems

A court in China has ordered a Chinese television production company to pay damages to a man who received more than 3,000 nuisance messages after his mobile phone number was used in a police TV drama.

The court said the Runshi Rongguang Film Production Co. should have made sure the number was not in use before having a villain say it aloud on-screen, China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The company was ordered to pay $256 to the mobile phone customer, Chen Bing.

Chen, 39, says he started receiving a stream of text messages in July 2004.

“It was so annoying, and for a long time I wondered why I was getting all these text messages,” he said.

Chen discovered that his number had been used in a TV series called “Chinese Police – September Storm,” broadcast between 2004-06 and later released on DVD. A villain spoke the number slowly, to allow another character to write it down.

The company said it made up the number from a staff member’s birthday and did not mean to cause trouble, according to Xinhua.

Trapped in elevator for 3 days

Can you imagine being stuck in an elevator for three days?

Well that’s what happened to a woman in a suburban Paris housing project last week. The woman, 19 years of age, was found very dehydrated but alive on December 22nd. Newspaper and Television accounts state that the womans father had contacted the building concierge on December 19th when he learned his daughter was missing and suggested that she might be stuck in a broken elevator. However, no alarm had gone off, and they said that a repairman checked the elevators and didn’t find anyone inside.

The repairman began work on the broken elevator the following day, and then returned on the 22nd it was then that he heard a soft cry. On Wednesday, the girl’s father, who had advised police of his daughter’s disappearance, filed a complaint for non-assistance to a person in danger – a crime in France – according to Le Figaro.

Several elevators in the housing project had recently been renovated but not the one in question, according to the news reports. They said that it was unclear why Safiatou did not cry out for help.

Almost changed to Satellite TV today

I’ve had quite the day! Earlier today we had a cable company technician here for three, yes three hours! We had to call the company the other night because we noticed that some of the shows were were taping or just plain watching were getting digital interference. Sometimes it was so bad that the picture totally pixilated and you couldn’t tell what the actors were saying. It was terrible.

Ever since we moved here we’ve had problems with the signal. Apparently the cabling or equipment in our area is very old and that results in the houses in the area getting poor cable and even internet signals. They’ve known about the problem for several years now. This is not the first time we’ve had a tech here for two, three or even four hours trying to fix the problem or at least manipulate the equipment enough to get a slightly better signal. This is starting to make my stomach Churn, I’m so frustrated.

I swear earlier today we were thinking about switching to satellite TV instead. I figure that’s got it’s own particular set of problems though so I’ll wait a while and see how the work that was done today works out.
