It’s true that moss always grows on the North side of a tree.

I saw this sun dapple tree with it’s interesting bark and moss growing in the cracks while on a nature hike in the city (Toronto) on Saturday. I couldn’t resist taking a few photos of it. I love trees – particularly when they are without leaves … why, I’m not sure.

Lovely photo! Apparently runaway slaves who were making their way north on the Underground Railroad used to find there way to Canada with the knowledge that moss grows on the north side of trees.

Wow, that’s such a good photo, how did you capture the light so magnificently? do you use a tripod or flash?
