1…. I think I sprained my ankle today. It hurts when I walk on it or move it but it’s not swollen or bruised. Yet.
2…. I did it running after a RAT!
3…. Yep, it seems we have a few Rats in the neighborhood. Probably some human ones, but I’m talking about the cute brown ones.
4…. Yes I actually thought the rats were kind of cute compared to the pigeons that flock to our yard anyway, at least the rats are smart.
5…. I had thrown some left over French fries into the backyard for the birds or squirrels to eat. They like their junk food too. Apparently rats also love French fries.
6…. It was amusing to watch the rat in the middle of the yard, French fry in mouth, pat at one of the small birds (House Wren?) with it’s paws as if telling it to get away from it’s fries.
7…. When I’d had enough of seeing the rat sneaking back and forth from yard to hidey hole in the neighbors yard I ran at it to try to scare it and that’s when I twisted my ankle.
8…. Now, I suppose we’ll have to do something to get rid of the rats. One neighbor suggested rat traps, but my hubby and I are such animal lovers I can just see us looking at a dead animal in a trap and bursting out in tears at what we’d done. Any suggestions?
9…. Speaking of neighbors, my husband met one of ours on the street when she was bringing her child home from daycare and invited her into the backyard. I don’t know why but I dislike this woman. There are very few people in this world that I dislike, only three that I can think of at this moment, and for some unknown reason she’s one of them. The other two I have good reason to dislike.
10…. This neighbor brought her 20 month old daughter into the yard and let her loose. I was the one running after the kid, worrying that she’d fall on our landscaping stones and hurt her head. Mom was too busy rattling off why she’d been fired from her last job to care.
11…. Then the little girl started trying to pick the flowers. Fine I don’t mind a few damaged flowers or even some of my flowers being picked.
12…. But the little girl also started EATING the flowers! Luckily they were tulip petals, which I was pretty sure at the time were non-toxic, but did check on again on the computer when they finally left. It was kind of funny because the little girl was chewing on them like they were the greatest snack, however, I kept cautioning the mom to not let her eat the flowers as I wasn’t sure if they were safe or not.
13…. Now I’m hoping that I’m right and the tulip petals were fine and that the child is fine … otherwise I’m sure this woman wouldn’t hesitate to sue. Aarrrgh! Stupid people!

sOUNDS LIKE A PRETTY EXCITING AFTERNOON FOR YOU, GOOD LUCK WITH THE RATS…I DON’T LIKE THEM AT ALL!
blueyes says
Been there, done that for the ankle and the rats although the rats, which I found out after the fact, were someones pet they ended up letting go to come find a nice home in between my two floors. They have rat poison you could put out, but the catch is that you have to make sure no other animals get at it because they will die too. I put the rat poison out for my visitor and they go back to their little home and die so no clean up for you if they live in the neighbors yard.

Well, who doesn’t like french fries? 🙂 Hope your ankle feels better, and that you get rid of your rats. (don’t feed them french fries might help. ha.)
Mandy says
Oh wow, some mother she seems to be! You know I get that sometimes, ‘some’ mothers never seem to care about what their kids do when they visit, it’s like YOU have to watch their every move. Arghh
Lazy Daisy says
Wow, what an eventful day you’ve had. I don’t like women who don’t watch their kids in a backyard with hidden obstacles. sounds like your intution is right about this chick. Hope your ankle is better. My TT is up.

Trust your instincts with that woman. I think rats are cute….as long as they aren’t near my home.

Yes, rats (and raccoons) love garbage. They leave if nothing is available.

Oh, I can’t stand it when parents bring their kids over to the house and sit and sip their tea or rant about something while I chase their kids! It’s so unfair. My TT is up.

LOL at eating flowers. My kids like to pick our flowers, I tell them I prefer they didn’t.

Tricia never chase a rat they’re too damn fast.
Hope your ankle gets better.

We had mice in our house last summer. 5 of them. It was horrible. I felt bad to see them die too…so we took two routes. We got the mean traps that kill them and also some humane ones that trap them and a door shuts and there are tiny holes so that they can breathe. Then you can relocate them. The mice never picked the nice trap, they always chose the horrid death. I never looked at them or saw them dead. In the mornings, I would make my hubby go downstairs to the kitchen and check for mice and dispose of them before I got up. But you could try those humane traps in your yard. We found ours at Wal-Mart.

Eating the flowers! That is really funny, because my husband and I were just talking last night about how children do all kinds of stupid stuff and just have no idea its stupid. In fact, they usually think its funny. I guess this is just proof of our theory. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my TT. Happy Thursday!

Rats & cute just do not belong together in my mind.
I do love gardening, however. Thanks for visiting my TT.
Empress Juju says
Too bad rats don’t have money… you could sue for your twisted ankle.
I’ve read about “catch & release” traps… you could re-locate the rats to the woods or something. Sort of a ratness protection program.
TLC says
Trust me, you don’t want rats. Get rid of them, however you have to. Some got in our garage this last winter and I would be sleeping and hearing them running and making a mess. And make a mess they did. It was awful. You don’t want ’em.
Thanks for visiting my T13!

Tricia, I must blame you for getting me started with Thursday 13. I’ve voted for your blog a few times at BotB, and have enjoyed your writing. I’m really enjoying my first, TT.
Look for friendly traps to trap the rats. They do work, and work well, but then you have the problem of what to do with the rats you’ve caught.
Kelly says
I HATE rats!

Oh my gosh, I would be so freaked out if there was a rat in my yard!!!! We’ve had just about everything else….deer, foxes, a skunk, and even a wandering cow. I’d take them all over a rat, lol!

Can’t say I am a fan of rats myself…I freaked out enough when we had a little mouse in my kitchen in the last flat. lol.
I don’t get why mums think its okay to take their kids somwhere and then not watch them. I am always aware of what mine are upto. 🙂
