1…. I can’t believe the week I’ve had as far as high tech electronics and website maintenance goes! It’s been both good and bad.
2….Starting with the bad- I had my first bad comment on my site. Oh well, with all the great comments I’ve had so far one bad one doesn’t make one iota of difference to me.
3…. Sometime between the bad comment and the next not so good thing that happened to me techy wise my internet connection went down for several hours leaving me unable to post or answer mail for a good while.
4…. Then, on Monday afternoon, as I was checking stats for all of my websites on my hosting companies site I noticed that I was getting hits on a directory that I hadn’t added to one of my sites.
5…. It was a Ringtone directory with about 50 html pages listed in it. The pages were getting a lot of hits so I was losing bandwidth due to some hacker!
6…. My host wasn’t all that helpful in helping me figure out how I’d been hacked. The main thing that they told me to do was change my account password. Helpful but it doesn’t explain how someone must have gotten my password in the first place to be able to hack my site.
7…. At least it was only a directory that they added. They could have destroyed my whole site! Anyway, the point of this story is that if you host a domain somewhere check your stats regularly so you can notice any problems or hacks as they occur and change your password regularly too.
8…. The last bad thing happened at about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. My husband has a very bad cold and he was having a lot of trouble getting to sleep last night so he got up and went to the living room to watch T.V.
9…. He turned it on and nothing much happened except all three lights in the front started flashing. The T.V. is one of those rear projection DLP T.V.’s and it needs a powerful light behind the screen to show the picture.
10…. We’re hoping that the problem is that the light burnt out after two years and three months of use. Unfortunately for us, the replacement bulb costs close to $300 and it might take up to two weeks to get a replacement.
11…. Geez, we could buy a new (smaller) T.V. for the cost of that darn lightbulb! I hope that after we wait for a replacement bulb that it doesn’t turn out that it’s a different problem that needs to be fixed after all. We haven’t had much luck with DLP T.V.s, in 2004 we bought our first one, an RCA scenium and it died after two days, then we got another one from the company and it died after about 6 days … finally they gave us a Samsung and that’s been working fine until now.
12…. This last bit is my good techy news. On Tuesday afternoon I heard back from a company that had contacted me the week before regarding Buzz marketing. I had qualified to receive a newish techy product that they were going to give away to 45 Toronto Area bloggers in the hopes that the bloggers would use the product and talk about it on their websites and with friends in order to create a buzz or marketplace interest about the product.
13…. I picked up my new ? yesterday afternoon and gave it a two hour workout while returning home with it. Yes it’s something that works right out of the box. I’m quite pleased with it so far. It came with a ton of accessories and many extra’s that don’t normally come with the product when someone purchases it. I figure with the three main extras that came with my new ? it’s worth about $500. Yeah- and it’s FREE! No obligations at all, I don’t even have to write about it if I don’t want to and it’s mine to keep. Of course its kind of neat and I can definitely use it with my blogs so I’m pretty sure you will get a peek at my new ? starting later this afternoon. Sorry for the tease but I want to show you what this product can do when I really am ready and I’m pretty sure it will be this afternoon.

Thanks for stopping by my TT!
Yes Hawaii is great…nice weather good food, really nice people!
Sorry to hear about your TV, I couldn’t live without my big screen plasma!

Sorry to hear that you had a bad comment this week.
I know it can make one cranky, but you’re absolutely right to rise above it. For starters, it’s a drop in an ocean of positive responses. For some people it’s easier to criticize than to say something nice. Personally, I believe in “If you’ve got nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all”, but I gess it takes all sorts of people to make the world go round!
Happy TT!

Hope your tv gets fixed soon. I’ve had tech issues as well this past week – my computer collapsed (for a while) and my washing machine had had enough also – but I got to buy a new and better one, so I’m not complaining too much.
My 13 is up.

How awful about someone breaking in on your computer…and a bad comment. I have had a couple of those and it takes about 10 more good ones before I feel good again…clad you are more able to shake it off…you are such a grown up:-)
Friday's Child says
I really am very sorry if I had misled you. If you hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have noticed it. It was a typographical error. It is not trolls but rolls. Maybe I was too hungry when I typed it that I struck the letter ‘t’ together with the letter ‘r’. Will go back to edit it later or others may be misled too.
About your template, I’d suggest you save the entire template in microsoft word. Just update whatever you have saved to whatever you have added to your template. So if someone hacks you then just copy your template again and voila your site will still exist as ever.
Thanks for visiting.

Happy TT! Mine are up.

Sorry to hear about the TV. We finally just got a hi-def projector (about $600) and bought a roll of artists’ canvas to make a screen, so our “TV” is 10′ x 7′. That might be a good solution for you too, we love ours.
Mysterious Lady says
Nice 13. On that techy note. Do you do computer charting at your hospital? We are switching to it, and hoping it’s not as complicated as it looks.
Happy TT

As much as we enjoy the high-tech life, there definitely is a price to pay for it all! Hope the rest of your week goes without any more hiccups!
stephanie says
That is scary. I have a website separate from my blog and I just got an e-mail from the host saying I used up my bandwidth twice in the past week. And my stats haven’t jumped to show that. I wonder if I got hacked.
My TT is up.

I have two words for you: Mercury Retrograde.
Holy Cow! the bad comment, the electronics breaking, the hacker are all classic merc retro things.
Hope today is better and I want to know what your surprise is….

I have so much to learn about the techie world!
Stacy says
Cool techie stuff here… we run our own website and domain, but I leave all the techie stuff to the hubs and just blog. I think he checks for hacking and stuff, I’ll have to nudge him and get him to check more often. Thanks for the tip! Also, we’re looking at getting a new TV, so that was interesting about the DLP’s. So much new stuff out there, always good to hear what is good and bad with the new technology.
Have a wonderful day, my T13 is up now too…
Christine says
My husband is the techy wiz around here. I’m picking things up as I go along. Sounds awful though being hacked, like having your privacy envaded. We also had the same problem with our TV. My husband got one for Christmas and the lamp went out in a month and a half. Lucky we bought the warranty $300 is a lot for a light bulb!
Have a great Thursday!
Laura says
About the cost of the projector bulb – in our case it’s about $200, or as we like to think of it, .55 cents a day. 😉 To us, if we had to replace it once a year it would still be worth it because we like the big screen that much.
About the computer charting – I dropped out of nursing school so I’ll never use it, but since I’ve been in the tech field I’ve written the first two drafts of user manuals for a computer charting system, and delivered the training – it looks pretty cool. I’d be interested in knowing what it’s like on a day to day basis.

yeah, technology can be a bitch. hope it will all be well soon.
my list is up!

Great TT! I enjoyed visiting your blog for the first time.
Christina says
Sorry to hear about the bad comment and the hacking! I got my first bad comment (trashing me because I admired a designer bag in a shop window of all awful things…) and it kind of stung, even though I knew that by putting my thoughts out on the internet, I might have those kind of comments once in a while. And whenever I got those, they were typically anonymous. (So those people have no courage.)
And yikes, I just purchased my own domain, and your experience will definitely remind me to keep on top of those stats! Definitely would NOT like some random thief stealing my bandwidth!
Margie Mix says
Oh, tech week!! Ups and downs. I scare myself when I have weeks like this. Makes me have a strange urge to watch old Star Trek episodes. Great list and interesting. -Margie
