I found another site that my readers might like. If you like staying on top of the news or have very specific interests you can visit Newgie.com and get all your news and stories in one place.
I signed up for a site- which is rather easy to do by the way – and started exploring. From what I can tell so far, the site ranks stories based on the interest that other users have shown. For example, one of the first stories that was shown in my account area was a story about one of Paypals windows being broken by an explosive device. I imagine that a lot of other users looked at that news story before I got there and that’s why it was first in my section.
Newgie seems to be very easy to use. You can navigate in two major ways. You can go to your MyNewgie page and if you’ve already set up your preferences all the stories from the topics and categories that you selected will be there for you to browse through. Otherwise, you can click on your My account page and set up your preferences there, see the stories that you’ve viewed most recently, and manage your categories, RSS feeds and communities.
I found it very easy to get started selecting categories that I might be interested in. You can do this from your Account page. Simply scroll down to categories then click on “Manage my categories” from there you can see which ones you’ve subscribed to already or add more categories. Once you’ve selected the types of categories that you like you can adjust the options for each one- such as how many articles it will show you, their rank, and whether it will show you the full article or just a summary to begin with.
When you are reading an article you can add it as a favorite, recommend it for other Newgies, or Discuss it. You can do all of that by hovering over the news story in your Newgie area. If you choose to discuss the article you can add a comment to it, or send it to one of the communities that you’ve subscribed to.
I’d need to spend a few days visiting the site before I could figure out all of the pros and cons but from what I can see so far it appears to be easy to use, and it’s full of great news stories and other information.
The only thing that I couldn’t find is a search function. I’d love to be able to type in something like “photography” and get articles or stories that have something to do with my search term.
