Just glimpsed Entertainment Tonight and I see that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are going to get married very soon.
You’d think they were royalty the way the media has been talking about them continuously over the past year or so. I can’t wait until they get married and then maybe the press will settle down about all this wedding stuff and give it a rest for a while.
Of course they won’t though. Yet another celebrity will be in the news for eloping, being engaged or getting married. What’s the big deal. People get married every day. It’s a normal thing, and it’s supposed to be special, but celebs and many non celebs treat marriage so casually. Marriage is like buying and wearing underwear – you don’t just throw them out when they get dirty, you have to wash them and take care of them.
Are you as tired as I am about hearing about Cruise and Holmes and other celebs and their weddings?

yes but i must say it was fun to hear about britney spears and whitney houston and their divorces…FINALLY they will have the chance to be the women they started out to be!

I guess the attention is driven to celebrity weddings because, even though people get married on a daily basis, very few of them make such a pageant of it. Just like Mr. Cruise and his *eyeroll* ten grand steak dinner. It warrants attention for the sheer fact it’s ridiculous. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston had a million dollars worth of some stupid brown sugar candles at their ill-fated nuptials. How many people in the world were starving on that day versus how many people had their lives made exponentially better by seeing some candles formed from brown sugar/whatever else?
It’s almost like reformative social commentary, picture-book style.
