Meet “Little Me”
It looks like I was probably 2 years old or so in that photo. Squinting into the sun. I think I still probably make that face when the sun is in my eyes.
I don’t have any memory of that day, but I know from the background that it was taken up at our cottage, or rather, our old family farm in front of my grandmothers house. We’d taken over the old three story farm house far across the field from my grandmothers more modern house and we used the old family home as at cottage to visit on the weekends.
I loved our old farm house. I do remember that well. Unfortunately it burned down – with one of my brothers inside of it – when I was just five years old. Don’t worry, my uncle rescued my brother, but we didn’t know that for a while as we watched the farm house burn. We built a one story, 3 bedroom, open style cottage in it’s place and it became our weekend home away from home. It too ended up burning down when I was 19 or 20 years old. We never rebuilt after that happened.
This is a photo of my brothers wedding party. Terry is the one on the far left, he’s the groom of course. He’s also the middle child. The second oldest is my brother Laurie, and he’s the man to the left of my brother Terry, and just to the right of him is my oldest brother Bob. The last man is my ex-sister in laws boyfriend. Beside my ex-sister-in-law, is her sister, then to the right of her, the woman with the dark hair is my sister Ellen. She’s the fourth child in the family. Then finally, there’s a younger version of me.
I think I was about 10 in that photo. Which means that my sister was 20, and my oldest brother was going on thirty! Big age gap!
By the time I was 12 all of my brothers were married and I was an aunt to my first niece! That felt strange too. My sister got married when I was 17 or 18. I was a flower girl, brides maid or maid of honor at each of my siblings weddings. I wasn’t a bride until many years later – like 10 years from the last family wedding!

Well, too bad about the homes burning. I love farm country. You don’t see too much of them any more these days.
Cute, cute girl you were—
I know what growing up with older brothers is like. I was an aunt at the age of 9.

Great photos! I’ll bet that was a horrible few minutes before you found out your uncle had rescued your brother. I’m glad it worked out okay.

Have you ever noticed how strange old wedding photos are? I looked back at mine a while back and all I could say to myself was…. “What were you thinking?!!!” My our dresses and hairstyles really date us! Great memory though!

My siblings are 5 and 8 years older than me, so I can definitely identify with the gap in age and generations…lol. I was the baby too.

Awww. How cute you are there – in both the pics! I’d love to have that kind of photos, I have very few from my childhood, they disappeared a long time ago.

BTW – how do you get the “Recenter Musers” – did you create this yourself, or do you use a plug-in. Cool idea.
