I’ve spent a few of the last posts discussing my husband and I’s various blogs. I’m going to be re-designing a few of their themes and re-organizing all of the sites topics/categories and sidebars in order to make them much more user friendly.
Now I’m trying to decide what to do with this blog.
In the past this site has been a general catch all. If I decide to write about a television show that I just watched I write about it here. If Chris and I are busy working on home renovations I write about it here. I think that’s confused the focus of this site.
I mean I could write about DIY, home renovation and home decor on my gardening blog, or simply create a new blog altogether to talk about those topics. I do talk about them often enough on this site and my gardening site that I could justify creating a new blog just for those topics.
Also, now that I have my celebrity blog I think I could get away with writing about television show episodes or documentaries that have caught my attention on that site rather than on this one.
My other two blogs, the newest of all are web design and internet technology related. Posts about cool internet related stuff will probably get posted over there more often now. Although if I find something really cool that I think you guys will like I’ll be sure to let you know about it here too. Or at least point you over to The Web Files for a read.
If I take away the Home renovation, decor, gardening, technology and entertainment related posts from this blog what does that leave? Self, health, lifestyle, home life, relationship, shopping and general stuff. I believe that for the most part those are the kinds of things I talk about most often on this blog anyway.
Does that sound like a plan? Would you still keep coming back to read this blog and perhaps visit my our other sites more often to read some of the topics that I’ve diverted to the newer blogs on their own sites?
I’d really like your input before I start making major changes to this blog or any of the others that I write on. I don’t want to lose readers. I want you to continue to return and hopefully build a larger readership as a result of each of my blogs being more focused.
Feedback please?

I like how the site always posts about something random. Feverish Thoughts / Tricia’s Musings doesn’t sound focused, which is what I like. 😉

You know Tricia – I like it that I never know what you will post here, but I do understand you (we all) need to focus.
The day to day, self, health, life stuff is what I come back for but I do like to read the odd technical post to activate my gray cells too!
If there were more hours in the day, I’d read all your posts on every blog. You won’t lose me as a reader though – even if you change. Change is always good – do what feels right to you!

I got some comments on another post – What do you think this blog is about: http://feverishthoughts.com/2007/03/01/what-do-you-think-this-blog-is-about/
That pretty much say similar things as you have Anita and Heather.
Believe me, I’m very happy to hear that you like the blog the way I’ve been writing it. I’ve just been thinking that since there are so many topics that I write about – ones that I already have blogs set up for … that perhaps I should direct some of those topics over to the blogs that already exist. By this I mean some of the entertainment and gardening related posts that I write on this blog I should probably post on my Celebrity blog and Gardening blog instead.
I don’t think that re-directing a few topics to blogs that are better suited to those topics will hurt this blog. I’ll still be writing about the silly klutzy things I do on this blog, as well as touching on many of my varied interests which as Heather pointed out includes some technical posts.
I think this blog will continue to be a general catch all for everything and anything that crosses my path … but I’ve been looking at a number of the posts I’ve made over the last year and it’s become clear which topics are dominant on this blog – Health, Home and lifestyle, and technology. Since those are the main topics I would hope that those are the topics that you keep coming back to read. They’ll stay. Don’t worry.
Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate the feedback. Don’t worry I don’t plan on making major changes. I just want to make the topics that do keep you coming back even stronger.

Why would you take away home renovation, decor, gardening, technology and entertainment related posts from your blog. I like reading about those things. I have already blogrolled you and I come back here to visit everyday. I like reading about those things. To me it makes your blog unique.

I am facing the same dilemma too. I used to blog about anything under the sun on my ah ok lah blog but I realise that I need to have some kind of theme. I already have a blog specifically on automobiles and another on Freebies on the net. I am also busy with a new one which focuses on SEO. Wonder where that leaves my blog.

Kahea – No, no, don’t get me wrong. I don’t necessarily want to take those topics away from Tricia’s Musings. I enjoy writing about those things. In fact I enjoy them enough that I think I could devote sites to them. That doesn’t mean that I still wouldn’t post on those topics on Tricia’s Musings … I’d just post more often and in great depth on the other blogs – and tell my readers about posts on those other sites that might be of interest to them every now and then.
Don’t worry … I don’t foresee major changes on Tricia’s Musings … I just think that I can expand on these topics in great depth on other sites, grow as a blogger and give my readers even more of what they like.
Adam – I was just replying to another blogger saying that if they found that they discussed a particular subject regularly on their blog- but it didn’t really suit the overall theme to think about it and see if they would have enough interest to write about that topic on it’s own blog. That seems to be what you’re doing.
As I’ve said a few times now. I don’t really want to take anything away from this blog ( and perhaps Adam you shouldn’t take your main topics away from ah ok lah either) but I know that I have so much more to say on a number of topics that only pop up here every once in a while … so why not expand?
Keep your comments coming. Love the feedback!
