As I was saying in an earlier post “Time to take stalk and work on our blogs” I’m going to be giving a number of Chris and I’s sites a makeover.
This site might get a makeover too. This is where my readers and visitors come in.
What do you think? Should I stick with this theme? Just tidy it up a bit, and get it a little more organized so it’s easier to find anything that you’d like to find on this blog?
I know that many of my visitors really like the look and feel of this site and I’d hate to change it if a little tidying and organization would be enough.
When I started this, my first blog, a little more than a year ago I did it with the intention of talking about my illness (Crohn’s disease), but I quickly decided that I didn’t want to talk about how sick I feel or how much pain I’m in as that just brings me down and if it brings me down … well I’d probably have few readers other than those that felt as bad as I do.
So I began talking about everything and anything that interested me. As time went on I discovered that I talked about gardening and photography quite a bit. So I decided to create blogs where I could post about those two subjects. Well, my photoblog is just photos. It would probably be a good thing if I made yet another blog where I also spoke about my passion for photography as well.
I think it was a good idea to create new blogs so I could focus my other interests better. This blog would be even more cluttered if I hadn’t done that.
Along the way I think I’ve found this blogs voice, but I’d like to get your opinion on that as well. Yes it’s a general blog. There’s no hiding that. However, which topics or genres stand out as being main topics when you read this blog? Please don’t count the last two months or so, because I’ve been feeling awful and haven’t been writing from the heart as much as I used to. Go back a couple of months and decide what you think this blog is about.
I know I discuss Toronto, my neighbors and neighborhood quite often – and interactions with my crazy neighbors too! I also talk about life here at home, life with Chris, shopping adventures and home renovations, and cool web related finds. My feeling is that this blog would fall into the Home and Living, Shopping and perhaps entertainment genres with a side of web technology.
What do you think?
I want to be clearer in my topics on this site. More focused. Which direction do think this blog is heading?

Do you have to classify your blog? Can’t your blog simply be about life and whatever you think about at the time?
I have a list of blogs that I read regularly on a spreadsheet. It may be geeky but it’s the only way that I can keep up with everything I want to read in the course of a week. I classify them and you’re catagorized simply as “Life.”
As for your other blogs, I’m curious, has this diluted your audience by splitting them into smaller splinters or do you think that having multiple blogs has attracted more people to you by being able to attract people with like minds?

I think it’s good to have a random blog (you’d never guess, looking at mine would you?) as it allows you to specialise on your others.
I like this blog the way it is, but it can be a little slow to load-possibly down to some of the widgets. I like to clear out some of mine occasionally, those that eat bandwidth, but do little else.

I try not to dilute my blog by having too many specialized ones. One blogger can barely write enough in spare time to maintain one really good daily blog, let alone several.

Thomas – No I don’t really have to classify my blog. All I wanted to do was to give it a stronger focus. Home, Life, Health and a smattering of web technology seem to be the main things that I write about on that blog … I was just thinking of focusing other topics that I hit upon towards other blogs that I already write on regularly.
I don’t plan on making any major changes to Tricia’s Musings. Don’t worry!
I do think that I have more readers now than ever since I created some new blogs last June and July. All of the topics that I focus on, on my “specific” blogs are discussed now and then on Tricia’s Musings, but I can write even more about each of those topics on the blogs that I’ve devoted to the various subjects that they are about. For example- I do write about gardening on Tricia’s Musings but not in depth plant profiles or How To’s etc … but on As the Garden Grows I can take the time to write about specific plants or types of plants. I’d say that the majority of readers on my gardening blog are Gardeners – ones that I wouldn’t have had visiting Tricia’s Musings as regularly (if at all) as they do As the Garden Grows.
Chris – thanks for the input. Yes, I do plan on tidying up the sidebars and possibly eliminating some of the widgets etc. Glad to hear that you like the Randomness.
Saskboy – Ah but I’m sick at home and need to fill my time! LOL
Actually I have a lot of interests – and quite a bit of experience in the topics that I’ve chosen to create new blogs for. Two of my “special Interest” blogs are about Gardening, and Photography. Having separate blogs for these topics allows me focus on those topics alone on each of my blogs. For example I can write in depth information about gardening, plant profiles and other garden related material that would just look out of place if I started doing that on Tricia’s Musings. Of course that doesn’t mean that there isn’t the occasional photo or garden related post on Tricia’s Musings as well. 🙂
I haven’t had a problem finding interesting things to write about regularly on any of my more focused blogs.
Thanks for the comments! Keep them coming please!
