Does anyone else have an older home that they are renovating? We’ve stalled on our projects so I’m living in a house that’s half done. I hope we get back to it soon.
Even though our projects are way behind schedule I’m still keeping my eye out for items that I need to complete the finished look. If anyone knows of any great sites to get glass door knobs I’d really appreciate it.
I really like them, and our house came with a couple of them – on doors that we are no longer using. When I put in a new door to our basement and perhaps one between the kitchen and dinning room I’d like them to be glass – French doors with glass door knobs. Unfortunately the two glass door knobs that we do have don’t match.
What we have been doing is going to the local Habitat For Humanity store that’s pretty close to here and having a look around for glass door knobs. We’ve also been watching for garage sales – sometimes people sell their door knobs at yard sales. Plus, whenever it’s garbage day we watch for people to throw out old doors. We haven’t found one yet, but someday we might find an old door with a glass door knob on it and we’ll just remove the door knob if we do.
Any other ideas?

Get the Flip That House guys to do it! I’d just go Home Depot just to save on searching time and its a safe bet. You might not get the best deal or something uniquely Tricia, but it’ll do. But then again, that’s just me. 🙂

No, I want to get something authentic. Our house was build in 1927 and while we are modernizing it I still want to hold on to a bit of that old fashioned look. Modern glass door knobs just don’t cut it once you’ve seen some of the really pretty old ones.
Of course if I needed something just until I found the perfect door knobs then yeah Home Depot or a place like it would possibly be a good place to look.
So you guys see Flip that House too? I thought that was a Canadian show? Or is this one of those shows that has both a Canadian and an American version? LOL

Try ebay. Seriously!
I bought some gorgeous cobalt blue ones on ebay, but youu can find them in all kinds of colors. You may even get lucky and find some antiques.
But check out ebay.com, not .ca
Look for sellers that will ship to Canada. Sometimes they don’t show that they do, but if you ask nicely, more often than not they will.
There’s a lot more older homes in the US than Canada, where ppl dispose of things that they find are junk but are treasures to us.
I love old architecture myself. Our home was built in 1956 and had one glass doorknob. I actually found some nice chrystal ones at Home Depot that match pretty well. It all depends if you don’t mind authentic or not.

Right on Deborah! I was going to say eBay too. Specifically try looking under Antiques >Architectural & Garden. Find a reputable dealer with lots of feedback and shop with confidence.

I have 11 doors in my house, built in 1939, all with glass door knobs. For reasons beyond our control, we may have to leave our house. If so, we would like to salvage what we can. I’ll check back with you later as to what will be happening and what we are able to salvage. I may be able to help you out.

I really like vintage glass door knobs. I found a couple by chance at a junk shop.. They seem to be one of those things that turn up when you’re not looking for them!

Try Google image search for Glass door knobs, you can probably find something that you like as well as stores that sell them.

Being a glass collector, I tend to find a lot of stuff on ebay and craigslist. Ebay has been absolutely wonderful to me in the past. Its amazing the stuff you can find on that site. If I were you I would start there. Good Luck!
