Promoting your blog

June 20, 2007 by Tricia

I was wondering … what kinds of things have you don’t to promote your site?

If you haven’t already, I’d recommend that you add your site to all the big search engines – Google, MSN, and Yahoo. Then get your site listed in Dmoz, Truth Laid Bear, and any a web directory that suits your sites topic.

Niche directories are great to be listed in if your website or blog is about a specific niche topic.

Another thing that I do try to try to promote my site is comment on blogs. Now, I haven’t been quite as good about this lately as I used to be, but it’s a good thing to do. Think about it. When someone is kind enough to leave a comment on your site you probably visit their blog. Especially if they’ve left a great comment. So it makes sense to visit other peoples blogs regularly and leave a comment. You should get some return traffic by doing this and if a blogger likes your site enough they might even add you to their blogroll or write a post about your site.

What else do you do to promote your site?

Have you ever tried to get a site listed in DMOZ, its mission impossible… it can take years… most of the time its never… a lot of the editors are rumoured to be on the make… a lot of vested interests being protected within DMOZ…. sooner or later the SE’s will have to completely dump it.

Thought your post was interesting, so I checked out DMOZ to see how to get on it. Guess what? My blog “Sma’ Talk Wi’ T” was already there. I’m still confused about del.icio.us and Digg it.
