I don’t talk about my love of pets and animals all that often of this site, but I absolutely adore animals.
Having a dog as a pet has always been a dream of mine. I couldn’t have one as a child because of my and my brothers allergies, but now that I’m an adult I still long to have a pet dog.
I’m not sure that it will ever happen, but if I were to get a dog I think I might choose a Boston Terrier.
Why? Well for one, Chris is scared of big dogs. He probably won’t admit to that if you asked him, but trust me, he is. I know for a fact that he likes Boston Terriers though. A few of our friends have them, and one of the pet stores that we go to in order to get supplies for our turtles has an in house pet Boston Terrier. Chris always plays with these dogs. They are so cute too with their big eyes.
I want a pet dog bad enough that I’ve even gone so far as to look up the Boston Terrier breed in the Dog Guide. The guide has quite a bit of information about Boston terriers including health issues, skills, personality and their need for attention. Apparently these dogs have a strong need for companionship, are extremely intelligent and playful.
Well I definitely knew about the playful part. The Boston Terriers that a few of our friends have love nothing more than playing a game with their ball or chew toys.
My blogger friend Cynthia has a blog about her dogs and she occasionally writes articles about other dog breeds. She has an excellent Boston Terriers Dog Guide Article. I actually found The Dog Guide through her website when I was surfing the web.
If we ever do get a pet dog, a Boston Terrier perhaps, we’ll probably get a rescue. All of our other pets have been rescues.
Do any of you have a Boston Terrier? I’d love to hear about your experiences with them.

Boston Terriers aren’t well known in England. I always like Minature Schnauzers.

Call me crazy, or obstinate, but I live in Boston and I don’t favor Boston terriers or even Boston cream pie. Instead, I own a Lhasa apso. I got him 2 years ago. I thought and deliberated for years over whether I should I get a dog. And guess what? It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Do it! True, it costs a lot to have a dog ($55 for a vet visit; each bone he eats costs about $2.50), but the rewards are tremendous. Get that Boston terrier!

Have you heard of a “chinpoo?” I was at a pet store and apparently there’s this breed named as such.

I prefer a dog that doesn’t shed myself. I have a Maltese. She is easier on our allergies here. Any medium or small bredd is OK in my book though. I love htem. I just tend to only commit to those who don’t leave hair all over my bed 😉

My friend just bought a boston terrier and he loves it!
He likes to sit by the window and stare out at the mountain scenery all day long – so cute….

I had a wonderful Boston Terrier named Charlie. I adopted him from a “friend of a friend” whose 90 year old mother had to give him up because she was going into a nursing home. I took him reluctantly because I already had an 11 year old collie-mix named Latke who wasn’t crazy about other dogs, and 3 cats…one of whom was diabetic. So, I was worried about the stress on the other critters. I needn’t have worried. Charlie was one of the most gentle, kindest, loving creatures to grace this earth. He was just a month shy of 2 yrs old when I got him and very energetic. He calmed down quite a bit after he was neutered, and as he grew older he became more of a couch potatoe, though he never lost his playfulness or “joie de vivre”. He became best friends with a kitten I adopted a couple of years later, Raja. From the time Raja was tiny until he grew to a hefty 17lbs (Charlie averaged about 30 lbs), the two of them would wrestle and play like a couple of bear cubs…Charlie always knowing instinctively when to back off. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. In February of 2006 at age 9yrs, Charlie began having a series of seizures attributed to a brain tumor. Within a week of the first seizure, we had to make the sad decision to put him down. My family and I are still grieving for this little soul. I love all animals and miss my dogs terribly (Latke died in 2002 at age 16yrs). Unfortunately, I’m not in a position financially right now to care for another pet. But, guaranteed, when things lighten up a bit, I will adopt another…and I would love to have another Boston.
