What kind of name is Malva for a flower?

Malva Sylvestra Zebrina – that’s the formal name of this flower. what a mouthful for such a pretty striped mallow flower.

I love this dependable little plant. I grow Malva in front of my William Baffin rose bush er tree. The flowers bloom in front of the roses bare lower branches hiding it’s ugly “knees”. It makes a great combination along with some lavender and some phlox.

I love the purple colour on flowers. When you mentioned lavender and this malva flower, I just had to say it looks remarkable.

LOL! you can choose among its three names. Zebrina would likely fit coz it is striped.

I imagine the discoverer named it after his mother-in-law.

An exotic name for an exotic plant.

Jean luc yes it is quite a name but it’s not really an exotic plant. Malva is mallow as in musk mallow. This is just a hybrid of what some might call a weed. LOL
