I’m not looking forward to winter this year. I have a feeling it’s going to be a long cold winter.
Why? Well, last winter was very mild here for the most part. Yes it was very cold here and there, but we didn’t get much snow and it was above freezing quite often. Then the summer wasn’t too bad either. We had a cool June for some reason, but then July and August were fairly normal temperature wise.
When the weather is fairly reasonable through three seasons I know from experience that the next winter is usually pretty bad. Perhaps I should start packing now and look for some Orlando real estate so I can be in a nice warm area when it’s freezing here.
If you’ve never lived in a cold climate you probably have no idea how appealing that idea really is right now.
Actually considering that I’ve been working from home for much of the last two years I have thought of moving to another area with a better climate. If I can get my husband to work on his websites perhaps I can talk him into working from home too? Then we’d be all set to live anywhere as we’d both be free agents.
Do you ever think about moving to another country?

I have lived in Australia for while and loved it. Sydney in winter is like 18 degrees celcius during the daytime and sometimes a bit chilly at night, but never below 0. But at least I don’t have to wear a thick wintercoat, 2 pair of socks, a scarve and gloves like over here. I might be moving back there!
I would say go for it!

If in Europe will be the same winter as the last year, I will be very sad. I was very warm winter without snow. Hope it will be better this Winter.

Dee it does get below zero here in the winter. Mostly in January and February. Last winter it was mostly over zero though so it was quite a pleasant winter overall. I find it much colder here in Toronto (when it’s really cold) than I ever did in my home town of Ottawa (tied with Moscow for coldest capital city in the world) because Toronto is on a very large lake so there’s moisture in the air and the cold just seems to sink into your bones, where as in Ottawa it’s a dry cold.
I have thought of moving to Australia. I know I’d love it there. I’m not sure if you know this already, but my husband and I have always kept reptiles so we like the idea of visiting countries or areas that have a lot of native wildlife – particularly of the reptilian kind.
Maybe one day I’ll look into what it would take to immigrate there. I’d definitely like to visit for a vacation at the very least.

Tweety we didn’t have much snow here this past winter either and it was warmer than usual. I didn’t mind the warmer winter, but as a gardener I was particularly worried about the lack of snow cover on my plants. Wind chill and lack of sufficient moisture is worse for plants than a cold cold winter with lots of protective snow cover.
I’ve always thought that the weather in Germany is comparable to that of Toronto. Whenever I talk to someone in Germany in the winter time it always seems that Germany is only a couple of degrees warmer and that the rest of the conditions are close to what we are experiencing here at that time.

Hoto I’m not sure where you are from, but here in Canada if we have a very mild winter it always seems that the next one is just brutal. I do hope I’m wrong. I really do!

Tricia,
I am sure you would love Australia and yes lots of reptiles to find, if you move out of the big city’s.
Over here the tempartures usually go below zero as well in winter except for the last one. But in my case I would say it’s not the temparture, but the lack of sunshine that makes me want to move away to Australia. Plus the people are nice, beautifull wildlife, beaches etc.
Ah the grass is always greener………I would actually like to visit Canada as well. Both Toronto and Vancouver look attractive to me.

Alright! It seems not only am I the only southerner commenting on this thread, but maybe the only gal from the USA? Am I correct?
Until yesterday it was hot as hanging on a hook on the hinges of Hades where I live. Then VOILA the air is as crisp as the snap that you get when you bite into a Granny Smith (the apple 🙂 not somebody’s beloved grandmother ) and it’s just invigorating! The humidity is down and spirits are up!
Because of my DH’s job we divide our time between the Northeast and way down south in Dixie and it seems we are always in the wrong location to enjoy the best weather. For once we hit it just right!
All I can say is AHHHHHH!

LOL Claire, well it seems that I’ve got quite an international crowd that likes to visit and sometimes comment. It’s true you might be the only Southerner and possibly the only American that commented on this post.
It sounds like your weather might be a little like what’s going on here in Toronto. We’ve had an unusually warm and humid October. Well, up until two days ago that is. Honestly, last Sunday it was 88 F and with the humidity it was 99F! Normal temps at this time of year are in the low 60’s during the day and frequently in the 40’s or low 50’s at night. We’ve finally gone back to more normal temps in the last two days.
I’m glad we still had the air conditioners in the windows last weekend though! It would have been unbearable with the humidity last week without them. We just took the air conditioners out last night. I don’t think we’re going to have another freak heat wave.
I wish it were a little warmer than it’s been in the last few days, but I am glad it’s cooling down a bit too. right now it’s 3 Celsius though (37 F). That’s cool.
Interesting that you and your husband live and work in two different areas throughout the year. That must be a challenge.
