Yesterday afternoon and well into the evening I spent some time outside in the garden.
It was a beautiful day so Chris encouraged me to bring out the laptop (since I was trying to make a few posts on my sites!). We also brought our dog outside with us to enjoy the garden.
It didn’t take me long to get out the camera. I hadn’t taken any photos of what’s been blooming in the garden fora while. As I was taking pictures I came across this big Bumble Bee nestled within some Phlox blooms. It was just taking it’s time collecting pollen so I was able to take several pictures of it.
There were quite a few bumble bees buzzing around the garden, visiting all of the flowers that were in bloom. Each year it seems we have quite a few bees, butterflies and moths fluttering around all the plants. There’s usually some wasps as well, but I try to stay clear of them!
I’m actually allergic to bee stings, but (crossing my fingers) I haven’t been stung since I was a teen! Hopefully my luck holds out.

Lovely picture with the bee- I just love white flowers! I actually got stung this week, just standing in my yard. I have so many bees but have never been stung until this week. It wasn’t bad though and sure won’t keep me out of the garden!

Bees are actually in a very short supply globally, so this is a nice welcom. Today, many farmers are actually worried that bees may soon become extinct, believe or not.. The bee spieces is only a fraction of what it used to be just 15 years ago. What is scary, is not just for flowers to pollinate, but the majority of fruits and vegatables need bees to properly pollinate and flourish. There is many theories behind this, but the most interesting is from “cell phones”. The bee communicates by its antennae and signaling. The bee is just the right size however, to also be a Cell phone radio wavelength. Because of how bees communicate, and their size, they would be very sensitve to the electromagnetic radio signals that cell phones emit. The other theory is from some type of airbourne disease. The combination of both may also bee true. Does anyone think that without bees, we may starve or at least suffer from nutrional deficiencies without the pollination of fruits?

He looks quite content in the flower. Watch out for those wasps – those are the ones are nasty!

If you took that picture, then I need to know what kind of camera you used. That really is such a great picture, that flower looks like the most comfortable bed in the world.

Kesslerdee I’m sorry you got stung this week. We have so many bees and wasps in the garden I’m really not sure how I haven’t managed to be stung yet (considering I’m the worlds biggest klutz!), but I’m glad I haven’t been since I’m allergic to them. I do like watching them buzz around though.

Jean-Luc yes it was posing well. At first, as I approached the flowers, I thought it was a beetle because it was buried under a few of the flowers. It was quite happy where it was and didn’t mind me taking a few pictures.

Cobra – yes I know that bees are struggling. It’s really quite serious. I watched a documentary recently that said they thought the bee decline this year was caused by a parasitic bug, but I don’t think they are 100% positive that that’s the cause. Either way, they are declining and we do depend on them to pollinate all the flowers that develop into fruit and veggies – not to mention the beautiful flowers that I so admire.
I think we’d suffer more than nutritional deficiencies if bees were suddenly gone. We’d probably have a famine or something close to it!
I hadn’t heard anything about cell phone signals affecting them, but I suppose it’s possible.

KML yes it’s amazing how different wasps are from bees in personality. I find Bumble Bees to sort of be friendly creatures. They don’t seem to mind me hanging over them taking pictures or picking raspberries as they sleep on the underside of a leaf … but disturb a wasp and you’d better move!
My puppy is fascinated by bugs and I’m just dreading the day that she snaps at a wasp and ends up making it mad. With my luck it will probably end up stinging me!

Datingtoyou, Jersey and Watson Crick – thank you for the compliments on the picture.
Watson I use a Cannon digital SLR EOS 30D. It’s a very nice camera with an image stabilizing lens. I love it! Bought it last August and I think I’ve used it for 99% of the photos that I’ve taken in that time. So much for keeping my two other digital cameras around just in case I want to use them! LOL

Beautiful picture, but we just got rid of a ton of bees who made a hive in our chimney. At least one bee a day came down the chimmney and into the house. Had to get professionals to climb the roof and “dust” the chimney. Hope they are all gone!
