I have dumb roses

My roses and other garden plants must be quite dumb.

It’s getting colder and colder here in Toronto, yet my garden is still very much alive. Smart plants would have shut down and begun to go dormant by now …. but no, not my roses! Some of my other plants seems to be on the dumb side too.

Along with several other roses, my Compte de Chambord is still putting out lovely rose buds. Oh and they smell heavenly! Compte de Chambord has a beautiful old rose perfume scent and as I said, the roses and rose buds are still full of their lovely scent.

I took this photo last weekend. It was quite windy so I had to hold the rose stem while taking the picture, but the leaves and other plants near it were blowing in the wind, hence the interesting blurred effect in the background.

Even my Lavender has started to bloom again … I have no idea why. It’s not like I’m out there watering, amending soil or putting my secret sauce (Alfalfa Tea) on my plants. I’m not doing a thing to my garden .. yet it’s thriving.

Here’s a single Lavender bloom …

And here’s one of my Lavender plants, blooming (a little bit) and looking terribly healthy for this time of year.

Is your garden asleep for the winter or is it still struggling to perform as if it were summer?

I have one rose bush, which is potted on our deck, that is struggling to keep producing blooms. We’re definitely in fall mode here and just had a big storm this weekend. But as long as the bush is willing to make blooms, I’m willing to enjoy them. 🙂

Maybe roses just like being stubborn 🙂 Mine refuse to stop blooming as well. I’m curious to see how long they can keep it up. I figure towards the middle or the end of the month when it starts to get colder, that will be it for them.

Calling your roses ‘dumb’ won’t help them, Tricia.

Maybe dumb, but from your pictures very beautiful…as the leaves are falling here in the Roxiticus Valley, New Jersey, most of our plants have packed it in so you are lucky yours look so healthy.

What a way to describe something so beautiful! Can I have them if you don’t mind? 😉

Maybe I should try roses and see if the thorns keep the deer away. I am really mad at my deer for eating a dozen hosta plants that I planted last year.

    Beautiful they are anyway 🙂

I came back here today because I read about a product that calls AloeElite, have you heard of it before? It’s supposed to b good to your tummy for Crohns and such diseases.

Since I myself has tried AloeVera toothpaste against repeating inflammations in my gum with VERY GOOD results, I really do think that AloeVera can do wonder.

I just don’t know this product, but it might be worth a try?

Well here in middle of Italy flowers are still blooming, but we are having a very warm fall season with temperatures around 18-20 celsius. So maybe are not the flowers that are being dumb, more likely it’s the weather being a little confused!

My garden is in dormancy at the moment unfortunately

Kat yes I’m enjoying my roses that are somehow still managing to produce a few blooms as well. They should be shutting down for the winter now that’s cool, but if they aren’t going to I won’t complain. LOL

Lyndon how are your roses doing now? I still have a few that are blooming but not quite as many as when I wrote this post. I think the cold is finally starting to get to them.

Jean-Luc I know, I know I’m picking on my roses. LOL

BUT … if they don’t shut down soon they’ll get more winter damage when it gets really cold. So that’s why I say they are dumb. 😉

Roxy the roses are starting to die down now but there’s still a few stubborn bloomers.

Funny we didn’t have much fall color here this year. The leaves very slowly turned red and orange or stayed greenish/yellow – no real vibrant colors – at least not that I saw. A lot of trees still have quite a few leaves left too although they are really starting to fall now. I hope they all fall soon so we can rake up the leaves before it snows!

BK I’d give you some if I could, but I think the shock of digging them up would make them stop blooming. 😉

Gina I think deer like to eat rose plants too, even though many are quite thorny.

Lifecruiser I’ll have to look into AloeElite. I believe that I’ve heard that it does help some people with Crohn’s and other bowel disorders. Hmmm aloe toothpaste? I should look into that too. My husband suffers from Gingivitis and I bet that would help him too. Thanks!

Transgender Vanessa my garden should be dormant by now too. That’s why I’m calling my roses dumb for continuing to bloom.

The one good thing about our gardens going into dormancy is that we have something nice to look forward to come spring. By March I’m just dying to see something other than snow outside!
