Over the last month and a half my Twitter following has really grown. Of course that’s because I worked at finding people with similar interests to follow and most (not all) followed me back. I also added a “Follow me on Twitter” url to each of my blogs and I think that has helped increase the amount of followers as well. (My twitter url is in the sidebar under Subscribe if you’d like to follow me)
Unfortunately, since I’ve been very sick most of this month, I haven’t really been tweeting .. so I haven’t been greeting my new followers or posting interesting updates. Most of my updates have been about new posts on my husbands and my own blogs.
There’s a few things that I’ve noticed about Twitter that bother me:
1. I’ve had a few people follow me and it seems like they followed and then immediately unfollowed. I was able to tell that they weren’t following me anymore because the amount of people they were following was so low that I could easily check to see if I was listed as being followed by them. So it seems like a few people go ahead and follow maybe 2000 people at once and immediately unfollow most of them as soon as they follow them … Why? No idea but I suspect it’s so that they have a higher following count than the amount of people they are actually following.
When I see those kinds of things I simply don’t follow the person as it seems they are up to no good.
As a rule I tend to follow most people back who follow me unless they are doing things like I’ve described above, have spammy tweets or most of their updates are about topics that I have absolutely no interest in.
2. People that follow you, but haven’t even made one single tweet or if they have they only have a few, but their tweets are all marketing some product. I’m sure if you are on Twitter you’ve come across those marketers that are selling some new affiliate product or some kind of diet or weight loss product … maybe something like Leptovox or similar products?
Sorry, but if you are just marketing a product I won’t follow you back.
3. People that don’t fill out their Bio. If a person hasn’t written very many updates in their Tweet account and they haven’t filled out the Bio or listed a website I have no idea if I want to follow them back. At the very least, if you have a twitter account, please do fill out your website url as that can help potential new followers get a sense of who you are and what topics you might tweet about.
What do you like or dislike about Twitter?

I want to say that I love everything about twitter, but I am really disappointed right now in seeing all these people who are adding ads to their twitter. For me that is usually an immediate unfollow. Fortunately Twitter makes it easy to stop following someone, but still… I wish that ad thing wasn’t happening. 🙁

Tricia I watch carefully people who follow then unfollow I remove them of course right away, Also If i notice the ratio of followers compared to following are too high I won’t follow since most likely they are not going to follow back. I make exceptions in some cases.
My pet peeve is way to many tweets by someone.
I like you just got serious about twitter and now I am hooked. I hope you will follow me. I

I feel the same way about some of the things you mentioned Tricia. The other thing that bugs me, is the people that seem to be on all the time. It doesn’t matter when you check, they’re always posting something. You can get a bit of sensory overload from them 🙂

I totally agree with some of the downfalls you note about Twitter. People who are gaming the system by following you and then unfollowing as soon as you reciprocate. SocialToo.com is an site that will actually allow you to automatically unfollow others who do the same to you if it’s something you are interested in.
