This morning when I started up my computer and opened up my email and browser programs everything started moving really slow. It took Firefox about 10 minutes just to open up and my email program waited about five minutes before it slowly started checking for mail.
At first I thought that maybe my internet connection was really slow. After all it’s been snowing here since late last night (and continues to do so now) and it made sens that the storm might be affecting my connection to some degree.
I don’t think it was my internet connection though … I think it’s my laptop. It’s so full! Even though I move files and digital photographs that I’ve uploaded from my camera off to my other computer every now and then, the hard drive is just too full … either that or I don’t have enough computer memory although at 1 GB of RAM I think that should be enough.
I think sometime in the next few days I’m going to have to go through all the files on the computer and perhaps delete old ones that I don’t need, plus programs that I don’t use too. I’ve got plugins for WordPress stored in folder, themes and so on … now that WP can update plugins so easily I don’t need to have copies of all the free plugins I use stored on my computer.
I’m certain it’s not a virus slowing down my computer. I use Norton Antivirus and regularly scan for viruses. My computer is just well … stuffed!
Have you ever run into this kind of problem? I just don’t know what to do with all my files – ie digital pictures, documents and so on. Maybe what I really need is a bigger hard drive!

Sounds a bit odd that this happened from one day to another. I would say you should clean up a bit: delete tmp-files, run disk cleaner and defragmenting and such. Maybe you should consider an extra zip-drive for your pics too. Good luck.
Wishing you a great end to your week.

Hi Tricia,
Like Renny says, defragmenting might work. It could be Norton Antivirus. It’s been pretty slow recently try to track the many bugs that are happening lately. You don’t say how old your computer is, but the Ram looks okay. I’m not very techy, but I nailed Stewart for a mega second and he gave you a consult on the fly. You might be interested in the problems with internet explorer. You can follow that on his blog, Comments on Technology.
Take care

As Renny mentioned, Disk Cleanup and defragmenter might spped things up. Also other than a virus check. Run a spyware, just for a peace of mind.

Cleaning the registry can also help in boosting the performance of your computer. There are lots of freewares like CCleaner that you can use.

1GB of ram really doesn’t seem like that much to me. I spent about $60 and upgraded mine. I was even able to install it myself by just opening up a little area in the back of my laptop and popping it in.

I bet you should clean the entire system of computer and CCleaner is my suggestion for you! And try deleting the unwanted files/software in your computer. Hope this helps!

Get yourself a larger USB hard drive. Western Digitals best selling USB drive – the wdbaau0020hbk holds a massive 2TB and its not expensive at all. I bought one from Amazon last year and its been fantastic. I no longer have disk space running out problems on my computer.
