I think some time in the near future we’re going to have to look into getting a new TV. Not that we can afford one!
Why? Well, about five years ago we bought a DLP TV. It has a great picture, but it has this special light that shines on this spinning disc in order to make the picture. Trouble is that, oh about once a year or year and a half, the light starts to burn out and it costs about $150 to replace it!
When we bought the TV DLP’s were fairly new and we were told the cost of the light would go down but it doesn’t seem to have reduced in price at all. So it’s an expensive TV to maintain. Oh and last year we had to replace the color wheel!
If and when we do get a new TV I think we’ll look into an LCD TV or one of those new LED TV’s.
Anyone else have a DLP TV?

Yes, DLP’s are a lot of maintenance and do not give as great of a picture as LCD or LED. I have personally not seen a LED tv. What ever you do though do not buy a plasma!
Jean-Luc Picard says
Early models are always difficult. Plasmas are better for 42″ and over. Below that size, an LED is better. Our 42″ plasma is excellent.
Trevor Ford says
DLP screens can be viewed from a fairly wide angle from the center of the television with no problem, but they absolutely must be viewed at eye level for the best picture as the brightness of the picture falls off rapidly when viewed either above or below eye level. This can restrict where you place them for best viewing position in your room and should be a point taken into consideration before purchase.

Thankfully we avoided buying a DLP a few years back. My husband is always keen on the newest gadgets but t sounds like we dodged a bullet. Ultimately, we chose to go with a decidedly “lower tech” panasonic tv and that thing has lasted forever. As my husband admits “It ain’t pretty, but it works.”
Nicholas McIntosh says
LED is the way to go. LED’s are the future of all lighting. But the manufacturers need to figure out how to make them burn out faster if they want us to keep buying.
