Do you ever wonder where dust comes from? Or perhaps a better question is, how can you spend hours cleaning your home only to have dust everywhere a few days later? LOL
Our house seems to accumulate dust – maybe it’s because we have an old furnace? Or maybe because we haven’t finished our renovations so there’s exposed plaster in a few areas?
I don’t know what it is, but it seems no matter how often I clean my house there’s always dust on things within days. Sigh. Oh and we change the filters on our furnace about every two months. I’m sure that helps, but I guess it doesn’t get all the dust. Like I said we have an old furnace, maybe if we had a newer one it would help lower the dust in the house.
Chris had the day off today, so we decide to do a thorough house cleaning. It was snowing outside -our first real snow of the season – so we might as well have done something indoors, right. I changed the bed sheets, and dusted everywhere (even the walls!). Chris followed a bit behind me vacuuming. He even cleaned the three ceiling fans that we have in the house. The arms on the fan even manage to get dust on them when they are running 24 hours a day.
It’s great that my husband is so helpful around the house. He even did the dishes!
We got a flyer today for a local Canadian Pharmacy and they have air purifiers on sale, so I think we might get another one for the house (we already have two). Maybe that will help.
Does your house seem to accumulate dust easily too?
Of course along with the dust we also end up sweeping or vacuuming up a lot of dog hair. Our black Lab always seem to be shedding.
Our dog has two dog beds and we vacuumed them today as well. While I was working on one of them I noticed that there was tons of dog hair stuck on the inside to some of the velcro that holds the donut pillow. Man that was hard to remove! I didn’t get it all – not by a long shot! No wonder her bed was getting smelly!
After seeing how dirty our dogs beds were, my husband decided to take them to the laundromat down the street. They have some really big washing machines and driers. So now the beds are clean (well there’s still some dog hair stuck to the velcro, but they smell much better!).
I also spent some time sewing up some of the holes that our dog had made in her beds by chewing the material. Most of the holes were old ones that she did when she was younger. She’s two now and doesn’t really chew things other than her toys now (thankfully!), so I’m hoping that with the repairs her two beds will last for another year or two.
I love it when the house is clean. I’m not a neat freak, but hey … it is nice when the house is tidy. I’d just like the house to be able to stay clean for a while after putting hours in dusting, vacuuming and cleaning counters, tubs and showers. If the dust and dog hair would go away I’d be really happy!
Time for bed … I love sleeping in a bed that’s just been made up with fresh sheets. Don’t you? …. Good Night!

dust comes from many places like clothes, dead plants, particles, human tissue even dead skin, food, almost everything you can imagine. Happily there are now ways to efficiently clean your house with the aid of carpet steam cleaners or air purifiers.
Tricia says
Jane yes I know where dust comes from – it’s just amazing how much seems to be in our house even though we clean regularly. LOL
BTW we have no need for a carpet steam cleaner as we don’t have carpets. Our house is all hardwood floors. We do have two air purifiers and as I said in the post we might get at least one more.
meh says
get an iRobot roomba, it’ll clean the house while your out.
Tricia says
Meh … our house is all hardwood floors so an iRobot Roomba probably wouldn’t help much … plus we have no money to buy one anyway since I’m stuck at home on medical leave. I’m also pretty sure it would freak out our dog.

Tricia- We have alot of dust also! I thought it had to do with our wool carpet but recently decided it just is a fact of life in Arizona. It seems no matter how often I clean the house ,dust remains a constant issue. I also have air purifiers.
My favorite way to do a quick tile pickup is running around baseboards, etc. in big socks. I then put the dirty socks in the laundry. May not be a conventional method of dust removal but it’s quick and it works! I have seen ads for dustmop-like socks but haven’t invested in any as yet.

My house is so dusty that whenever I have company they refer to it as the “Dust Bowl”. So much dust everywhere. 🙂
Furnace Filter Guy says
Our furry friends bring in lots of dust with them every time they go outside and come back in. There is also shedding and dander from scratching and grooming.
Using a more efficient furnace filter can make a big difference when it comes to dust. Many people use fiberglass panel filters but they are really not very good. I would recommend using any other type of furnace filter.

Static Dusters are the best way to dust your home. Don’t Spend one more minute dusting with old rags and outdated dusters! Now there’s the Amazing Static Duster, a revolutionary duster that makes dusting easier than ever before! The secret behind these amazing dusters is static electricity. Just charge the Static Duster by simply brushing it across any TV screen, or rub it against a plastic bag and the fibers are charged, creating a static electricity force. This results in a duster that is easy to use and extremely efficient.

I know you said that getting a Roomba is out of the question now. But they do have a new one that is for hardwood floors. It actually vacuums up the dirt, then mops, and then dries the floor. I have never used one but saw an ad on TV for it. Must admit that I was really impressed.

I feel like my house has a lot of dust as well. I have two cats and I feel like there is fur everywhere despite my constant grooming of them. I keep lint rollers everywhere. I don’t have an air purifier but do you feel like it helps? I might need to get one if they help with cat dander.

I know what you mean. Dust does seem to like it here.

I hate dust, it’s is all over the place and I believe that the cause is pollution. I try to clean my house at least once a week and still in a couple of days dust is all over the place.

I have found that nothing, absolutely nothing, cleans the air like an IQAir air purifier. You should try that for eliminating dust from your home.

I find my house very dusty though I clean it everyday…maybe it is because I live by the roadside.

Dust can be disgusting and irritating. It also cause me rhinitis every now and then. I always make a point to clean our house everyday despite of a busy schedule in work. Just like you, I’d just love my house to stay clean for awhile. 🙂 Thanks.

My home is a dust magnet as well, thanks, in part, to one very lovable yet extremely shaggy dog. I’m not sure where the rest of it comes from. I mean, I realize it is dead skin. I’m just not sure why there’s so much of it. This has always been a nightmare scenario for me due to all of the computer equipment we possess. Dust cleaning day is certainly not something I look forward, and I’ve taken some serious steps to put dust filters everywhere its possible.

Oh my! I thought I am the only one who suffered from dust:(
My wife & I just moved in a new apartment nearby Burnaby, Canada.
But I just couldn’t believe there’s so much dust in the areas. We almost need to clean our apartment twice a week..for next move, I am gonna stay away from the City center for sure.

Yeah, we have to clean our house (hardwood floors) twice a day. I have an ionic air purifier and when I run it it seems to help the dust problem. I just make a habit out of it and I’ve noticed my allergies and asthma have improved as well since we got hardwood floors.

A good air purifier will make a noticeable difference. You will not have to dust near as often.

“A good air purifier will make a noticeable difference. You will not have to dust near as often.” — specially when there is a asthmatic person you can see the goodness of having a best air purifier.

Living in Arizona, dust was such a problem until I bought a air purifier. It was getting close to me actually planning on moving away but after getting the purifier I was able to stay here.

I hate when dust just collects everywhere. It’s kinda annoying. I have been using my swiffer for years but I am always looking for new stuff to clean faster.
