I think I’m still recovering from the long weekend. Ok I know I am.
Since we had fantastic weather here in Toronto (seriously 25 C (77 F) is HOT for April here!) I spent a lot of time outside in my garden. My husband and I started tidying up the garden beds on Thursday evening when he came home from work and we continued working on the garden on Friday and Saturday.
14 yard waste bags later and we’re done!
Yes you read that correctly … we managed to collect 14 bags of leaves and uh rose branch trimmings. Yes it’s a little early to trim the roses, but most of them actually have leaf buds or actual leaves now … so I think it’s ok. LOL
My back is done too. Each evening I had to lie down with a heating pad to ease the spasms and ache in my lower back and hips. Luckily my back is a bit better today, but I sure did a number on it.
I’m sure not getting enough sleep over the weekend didn’t help either. My bedside lamp, a really nice one from Ikea that I’ve been using for a few years started humming or buzzing. Why do Ikea lamps buzz? Well, it’s not the actual lamp, it’s the attachment near the end of the plug that buzzes. Grrrr
It bothered me enough last night that I went looking for new lamps online and I found some wall scones at Hinkley lighting that might work if we place them on the wall on either side of the bed. That way my husband will finally have his own light. Not that he needs one … he tends to fall asleep most nights as soon as his head hits the pillow and if he’s not asleep in 5 minutes he thinks he has insomnia. LOL
Anyway … the good weather is over for a few days. We’re back to closer to normal temps and it’s raining raining raining oh and gloomy. Oh well it’s good for my garden (which has plants coming up that I don’t normally see until May!) and it will give my back a few days to get better before the garden lures me out there again.
Did you have a good Easter weekend too? Was the weather great or what?

Great! I know this problem with the back pain. It is always the same. A good work costs five years of your back’s life. I started to buy modern garden tools, but it did not help that much. Regards.

I also had a good Easter. I went to church with hubby and teen-age kids for the Easter Mass. Since I live in a tropical country, the weather was really hot. It’s the peak of summer in the Philippines. The holidays gave me a break from working on my website and a chance to just enjoy the company of my family. Hope your back is feeling much better. : )

Toronto sounds like a very warm Harrogate (in UK) – its practically tropical here for April (12C) – definitely shorts and t-shirt weather ๐
I spent the whole of last weekend digging at the allotment, and somehow managed to trap a nerve in my back. Digging due to start again in a couple of hours, so I’ve popped a couple of Ibuprofen to try and reduce the inflammation.
With this early summer like weather, the docks and dandelions are getting a hold!!
25C – I don’t think it reached that all summer here last year ๐

Oh that is why I put off working in the garden because I know full and well that as soon as I’m done, I will be regretting it that nite of sleep and the next morning when I try to crawl out of bed so I definitely feel your pain.

I hear ya. Hopefully the cold weather is gone for good and we do not have to deal with any frost issues. I got a little ambitious and may have planted my garden a little too soon this year.

i’m in myrtle beach and its not much warmer down here but the weather has been beautiful

I just spent most of the day killing weeds and mulching. But great news! The kids are now 15 and 14 and are cutting the lawn this year!

It seems that to get a good garden, you have to have a bad back.

I miss having a big yard. I didn’t have to water my plants, though since Seattle weather is fairly predictable and the rain can do some of my work for me. The temperature has been terrible for my poor plants so far.

Well considering I live in Thailand 25 C would be a WELCOME change! It’s been up in the 30s here-record breaking heat. As someone who grew up in the Rocky Mountains, that’s TOO hot!! ๐
I missed Easter with my family (for obvious reasons) but have really enjoyed reading other people’s accounts via the blogsphere-gotta love technology!
I hope your gardening goes well! Thanks for letting us follow along!

LOL! Glad I’m not the only one. After a day in the garden I found that stairs were arduous apparently squatting weed the gardens had really strained my thigh muscles!

I feel with you. I did the same this weekend, helping my friend with her garden and on Sunday I couldn’t get out of bed all day because of the back pain. Took an aspirin, had a really hot bath and barely on Monday started to feel better. But nevertheless, my friends garden looks great now so it was worth it.

Know how You feel, I’ve also spent some time tidying up my garden and later I felt so exhausted

Hehehe. I live near the sea and the weather in winter is 25 degrees. In summer it goes as high as 35 degrees.

Gardening can be tiresome, but it also give you some exercise which burns off calories not to mention you will have a beautiful garden to show for it. Gardening is always a good hobby to have.

I’m getting myself ready to do the gardening soon too. Gardening I don’t mind much, its the weed pulling that gets up my socks!

Don’t take chances with that lamp. It sounds like a possible loose connection which may be arcing. This can cause a lot of heat to be generated which could possibly start a fire.
Best get it looked at or even replaced.
Regards, Dave

Dave, if you’ve ever looked at the Lamps at Ikea a lot of them have this large attachment near the plug end. If you purchase one of those types of lamps they eventually start to buzz or they buzz right from the beginning. I think it’s because they are made for European electrical connections and the big thing on the end converts the plug over for north American plugs … I could be wrong on that it just might be the design … but if I buy things at Ikea I try not to buy the lamps or electrical items that have this big attachment near the end. The lamp I was talking about above is the very last electrical item (several years ago) that I bought from Ikea that has that thing on it and I hate the BUZZ.
I’m sure it’s not a loose connection. I’ve felt the wire and the big attachment thing (hard to describe) and the plug and the outlet where it’s plugged in and none of them are warm.
